Meets all specifications for required laptops Buying the recommended laptop takes all the shopping and guess work out of buying a laptop that meets FSC specifications. 4. On campus support The Information Technology Services staff is familiar with the recommended laptop and can provide first level support and troubleshooting. While attending FSC, you will not have to make arrangements for repair; ITS will coordinate directly with Dell on any repairs. 5. What laptop does Framingham State College recommend and do I have to buy the recommended laptop? FSC has partnered with Dell to bring laptop technology to the college community at a competitive price. The Dell Latitude D620 laptop has been selected by Framingham State College after consideration and comparison to other vendors' prices, services, and specifications. In this agreement, the price of the laptop is offered at a discount for all FSC students, faculty, and staff. The added value of service is tremendous. The laptop will be supported on campus by FSC staff and the laptop vendor. You do not have to purchase the recommended laptop to participate in the laptop program. However, any laptop on campus must meet the minimum specifications. How and when, can I purchase the recommended laptop? Upon your acceptance of admissions, students can purchase the laptop through Framingham State College’s Dell portal. To ensure you will receive the correct model and price, see our website for information on purchasing, given below. http://its.frc.mass.edu If I already have a laptop, can I use it at Framingham State College? Yes. If it meets the minimum specifications required. Please inquire to ITS staff for minimum specifications. What operating system do you recommend? Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Windows 2000 are the ONLY supported operating systems. FSC does not allow other operating systems on the network and will not provide support for them. Microsoft Windows XP Professional CDs are available for purchase at http://elms11.e-academy.com/framingham. How can I access the network using my laptop computer? Wireless access is available throughout the campus to access the network. We now have nearly 260 access points throughout the College, providing wireless connectivity to just about every point on campus including all academic buildings, residence halls, and many outdoor locations. We also offer a port-per-pillow (hardwired connection) in the residence halls, which is the preferred option using your RJ45 cable. The hardwired or Ethernet port allows a consistent 10/100 Mb and is a more stable and reliable medium. Do I have to bring my own printer? No, but we do suggest that you bring your own personal printer. There are many networked printers on campus for student use. However, there is no color printing and not all printers will be available 24 hours. Can I bring an Apple computer? Apple computers may be brought to campus however, they are not supported by ITS. Not all required software may work on an Apple computer. Apple computers DO NOT fulfill the requirement for a wireless laptop computer. Can I bring a desktop?
