School Teachers’ Laptop Scheme : Rules
Introduction: Under this scheme, a laptop is to be provided for all teachers working as permanent teachers under civil services, with the condition of paying a monthly charge in order to cover full cost of laptop within a 2 year period. In this accord, 500 laptops are to be provided each year. Objective: The main objective of this scheme is to provide opportunity and support to educate teachers and to instill teaching skills by means of utilizing resources of modern technology. Commencing duration of providing laptops: Laptops will be provided within the duration of 2009 to 2013 by providing minimum 500 laptops per year. Eligibility: The laptops will only be provided to teachers who are registered as permanent teachers in civil services. Seeking applicants: The people who need laptops will be selected by the Ministry of Education and after announcing by the respective party under their rules and regulations. Responsibilities of applicants: a- To complete the application forms and to submit it to the Ministry of Education or other party as decided by the Ministry b- Payment to be completed within the period decided by the Ministry or to complete payment to the party arranged by the Ministry c- To use the laptop in teaching and teaching related activities d- To maintain the laptop in good condition Rules followed in providing laptops: 1- Teachers who are registered as permanent teachers in civil services at the time of the commencement of this scheme are eligible to take part in this scheme 2- Any person who has been provided with a laptop under this scheme can be eligible to be provided with another laptop only after 3 years from the date of receiving the first laptop.
3- The following will be followed in providing a laptop 1 point in score for each year in service Academic qualifications (Advanced certificate 1 point, Diploma 2 points, Degree 3 points, Masters Degree 4 points, PhD 5 points). The certificates should be of accreditation value from Maldives Accreditation Board. Subject taught ( 1 point for each subject)
Announcing for laptops: Announcements for laptops will be placed before September of every year. Duration to complete payment of laptops: The payment should be made from the date specified by the Ministry of Education to a party arranged by the Ministry. Payment should be completed within a period of no longer than 2 years.
“A Laptop for Every Teacher”: How the scheme works
1- Ministry of Education to find a supplier for laptops 2- After seeking information of the supplying party, Ministry of Education to inform the Bank of Maldives 3- Application forms to be provided by the Ministry of Education to the interested Teachers 4- Teachers to complete the application forms and submit along with necessary certificates and documents 5- A committee chosen by the Ministry of Education to select the teachers to receive the laptops 6- Ministry of Education to inform the Bank of Maldives of the selected applicants. 7- The selected applicants to be given vouchers from the Bank of Maldives. 8- Selected applicants to purchase laptops for the provided vouchers 9- Bank of Maldives to make payments to the sellers (shops) from which the laptops were purchased for the voucher. 10- Teachers to make payments to the Bank of Maldives.
