IT Intern (full-time, fixed-term, January – 30th November 2013)
Aldeburgh Music is an arts organisation, based at Snape Maltings Concert Hall on the
Suffolk Coast. We are known around the world for the international standard of our
Aldeburgh Festival in June, the quality of the Hall’s acoustic and the association with our
founder Benjamin Britten, whose centenary we celebrate in 2013. Our year-round
programme of events includes opera, contemporary dance, choral and orchestral concerts
and programmes for young musicians and established professionals.
With Aldeburgh Music delivering a busy and high profile year of events, its IT systems and
hardware must be robust and operating effectively. The IT intern will be providing much
needed support to the Systems and Data Manager to ensure this, and to support him with
various IT projects including the acceptance of an updated ticketing system (Audience
View), the investment in and installation of updated machines and software, the
introduction of a new EPOS system for our shop, and the further development of our
remote working suite.
The IT intern will also provide support to the Marketing Department with general tasks, as
and when required.

Responsible to: Systems and Data Manager within the Operations
Works closely with: Within the Operations Department; the Box Office team, the
Technical Coordinator and his Deputy, the Visitor Centre
team. Also all other departments, but particularly Marketing
- To provide assistance to the Systems and Data Manager, which day-to-day will be
in the form of reactive maintenance, and some regular processes.
- To gain a full understanding of the systems and software used by Aldeburgh Music.
- To provide occasional weekend cover during periods of busy activity.
- To manage an agreed checklist of responsibilities, including the maintenance of
some shared office equipment such as photocopiers and printers, and the
management of servers and databases, telephone systems, NAS, network routers,
Barracuda spam and virus firewall.
- To set up technical equipment for meetings and events as required.
- To provide assistance to the Marketing Department as an when required, with
duties such as mailings, the distribution of printed material, the production of printed
notices and when another pair of hands is needed
- To provide assistance to other teams within the Operations Department as
reasonably requested by the Systems and Data Manager or General Manager.
In short-listing and interviewing candidates, the panel will be looking for the following:
An applicant with an excellent computer literacy
A conscientious person with an eye for detail
A positive, energetic and hands on approach to hard work and challenging
A self-starter with plenty of initiative
A Level 4 (or higher) qualification in an IT or Digital-related subject and knowledge
of SQL database management, TCP/IP,VPN, Office 2003-2010, Backup Assist,
An interest in the arts and work of Aldeburgh Music
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels (a high standard of verbal and written
English is required)
Ability to work under pressure and to adhere to strict deadlines
Flexible approach to working hours
Full drivers licence and own car
Terms and Conditions: This is a full-time, fixed term position, to start in January 2013
and finish on 30th November 2013. As with all posts, there will be a probationary period, in
this instance of one month.
Salary: £12k per annum (pro rata). Employees are paid monthly in arrears
on or around the 20th of each month.
Annual Leave: 25 days per annum (pro rata), plus bank holidays and a pro rata
allowance for the Monday and Tuesday immediately following the
Aldeburgh Festival in June.
Hours of Work: Currently, office hours are 9.30 am to 5.30 pm Monday to Friday (or
such equivalent hours as may be agreed with your Head of
Department). However, the hours for the post will be flexible and will
include some evening and weekend work. Aldeburgh Music does not
make overtime payments.
Place of work: The place of employment will be Aldeburgh Music’s offices at Snape
Maltings Concert Hall and at such other places where Aldeburgh
Music carries on its proper business.
Travel: You may be required to travel throughout the region, often in rural
and isolated areas. On these occasions mileage expenses will be
reimbursed at the appropriate rate established by Aldeburgh Music
for its permanent employees. Car mileage cannot be claimed for
journeys between your home and your normal place of employment.
