Job Title            : Social Investment Manager (North/South)

Reporting to         : Head of Social Investment

Responsible for      : n/a

Salary               : £32,245

Benefits             : Pension


Purpose of the Post

The person will be a key member of the Trust’s Social Investment Team, developing,
championing and managing a portfolio of social investments across coalfield regions to
achieve positive social impacts in coalfield communities and a return on investment for the
Trust.

This will be achieved by:

        Creating, managing and taking ownership and responsibility for a balanced
         investment portfolio by the provision of front end investment support to proposal
         stage, the championing of the proposal with the Trusts Investment Steering Group
         and the aftercare to ensure the achievement of income generation targets
        Building and maintaining selective working relationships both internally and with
         external partners that lead to the delivery of operational objectives
        Contributing towards the development and delivery of the Trust’s Social Investment
         Strategy
        Advocating the needs and aspirations of coalfield communities


The post will require close collaboration with the Trust’s Senior Management Team (SMT)
and internal departments to ensure this work is effective, complements and adds value to
the programmes and activities of the Trust going forward.

Main Responsibilities

      The development of social investment opportunities that respond to the needs of
       coalfield communities and generate a return on investment for the Trust
      To build relationships with external partners and clients and delivering a high level of
       customer service
      Provide proactive support to maximise the quality of social investment proposals and
       ensure the terms of the Trust’s due diligence and risk procedures are met
      Develop appropriate loan/equity packages balancing client needs with Trusts social
       mission and financial targets
      The preparation of investment proposals, working with the Trust’s Investment Team,
       to ensure proposals are of high quality and comply with the Trust’s social investment
       criteria and procedures
      The presentation of investment proposals to the Trust’s Investment Steering Group
       (ISG) and provide additional information and context as required
      Communicate decisions from the ISG and provide constructive feedback to clients
      Maintain regular contact with clients post investment offer to manage the Trust’s
       investment and respond to any difficulties with constructive action
      Contribute to the analysis of portfolio performance and prepare reports for SMT and
       the ISG as required
      Develop expertise of the social enterprise market and explore new opportunities for
       growing the social investment potential for the Trust
      Take responsibility for achieving spend and yield performance targets within the
       sphere of activity and support the objectives across the Trust as a whole
      Raise the profile of the Trust’s Social Investment offer and contribute to the
       development of creative marketing materials and positive PR
      Promote the activities of the Trust and create connections for internal departments
       to grow new areas of business
      Ensure that in the course of the work compliance with HR, equality and diversity
       requirements both internally and externally, and keep abreast of change to the
       external operating environment that will impact on success
      Embrace progressive change and demonstrate the flexibility to broaden the range of
       duties that are reasonable but not expressly identified

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

      Proven experience in the identification, development and assessment of loan/equity
       investment proposals
      Experience of managing a portfolio investments, monitoring their performance and
       maintaining good relationships with clients
      A good understanding of risk management and assessing risk for investment
       proposals
      Highly numerate with the ability to interpret financial information as related to an
       investment portfolio
      Good analytical skills and the ability to gather information, compile reports and form
       a confident judgement about the suitability of investment proposals for the Trust
      Strong influencing and negotiation skills to achieve the best results for all parties
      Excellent presentation skills and the ability to present to a wide variety of audiences
      Excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to develop positive and productive
       relationships both externally and internally
      Experience of using own initiative, paying close attention to detail, prioritising tasks
       and coping with competing demands
      Good all round education and the ability to apply experience and knowledge to new
       situations with an enthusiasm to learn about the social investment market
      IT proficiency particularly in Word, Outlook and Excel
      A demonstrable commitment to equal opportunities and working with others
      A network of existing contacts that will assist delivery of the post objectives
      A valid driving licence, own transport and a willingness to travel


Desirable

      Educated to degree level
      Proven track record in providing business / social enterprise support / mentoring
