OneNote: Short list

Start OneNote, and give thorough Introduction to Interface Organizational Units 2. Go up to New Folder Section New Heading (Expanable Header Area) Headers area – turn on/off in the View Menu Start typing text List of things to do Research Interests, etc. Move Text boxes around a bit! Create New Page, give a name. (Subpage?) – Create at least 3 different pages Flick through pages by dragging mouse. (Use Helpful Tips page???) Resizing a page – adding more room to an area. (Material from FDI website Drag and drop PARTS of an area of text. 3. Close OneNote! Simply go up to the Red X and close it. (Then reopen.) 4. Change Look, Colors, Pens, etc. Add lines to page – VIEW – Rule Lines – Type of Line Hide/Show Page Titles – Bottom Right Extend area for Titles Sections: Change colors for section tabs Use the Pens a bit – Digital Ink – Tablet. Change colors. Highlighters most useful Go back to Type Selection Tool 5. Choose stationery/Set page size/Create stationery Click Stationery on the Format menu (Cannot apply stationery to existing page! ???) Set new page size Blank Stationery (A4, Index Card, etc.) Do Google Image search for “Notebook” (or anything you’d like) – Save as Stationery. Set the image as a background image (Right click) Turn back on. Resize image. Move. Create new page from your stationery (MyStationery in Taskpane) 6. Notes about Formatting – Not as robust a Word Processor. Send to Microsoft Word 7. Cutting and Pasting from External Sources Shrink OneNote window and bring up Internet Explorer Drag a picture and text into the OneNote page. (Watch link pop up, too.) Firefox, Mozilla – won’t happen. 8. Importing Documents as Images Click on the insert menu item at the top of the screen – choose Document as Picture Document Files – select a Power point presentation Imports first 10 pages into one “Page” then the next 10 to another, and so on.
9. Searching your notes First, have student search for something across their notebook – “OneNote” Change search criteria. (Arrow to the right of the bar.) Then show the Tablet and search across my Notebook for “Tablet” – FINDS INK! 10. Research Task Pane Tools – Research. Do research straight from Notebook. Do search for “postmodernism” 11. Note Flags Highlighters! You can mark up important pieces of text that you won’t to remember. Set up a few note flags. (Right click on the appropriate line of text, or use button.) Then create NEW NOTE FLAGS. Format – Note Flags – Customize NF Task Pane Design new Note Flag – OnTest! Go through the OneNote tips (if any) and highlight things “to be on test.” 12. Finding Note Flags Click on View – Note Flags Summary Search/summary options: Go through them (look at Search Net, too.) Uncheck/check the Show Unchecked Items Only (Demonstrate with “TO DO” flags.) 13. Note Flag Summary Page View – Note Flags Summary Task Pane Create page with all Note Flags Then create a summary where you minimize all the other notes to get only Test items. 14. Screen Clippings One of my favorite features! Two ways to start out – Use the Windows Logo Key + S Right click on the OneNote icon in the Systray. “Choose Create Screen Clipping” Then show where the clipping shows up. Modify this so that it only copies to clipboard – more powerful. Open up Word and clip something into it. 15. Side Notes Easily collect information from Websites, etc., while doing research. Windows Logo + N or (right click on icon and choose Open New Side Note) Saves to new Side Note page in OneNote (One Section) sort through later. To open OneNote quickly after making SideNote – just expand screen. 16. Audio & Video Recording Need microphone / camera for video Open toolbar by – VIEW – TOOLBARS – AUDIO & VIDEO RECORDING. A little clunky. But this will synch up your audio with notes. Try out! (Mics?) 17. Note Sharing Experiment: TOOLS – SHARED SESSION – CHOOSE PASSWORD START SESSION – SHARED ADDRESS INFORMATION – Relay to students Have Students choose JOIN SHARED SESSION, give IP, password, and watch!
