					Arts & Culture:
Arts & Culture Council
The Parks, Recreation and Culture Division will facilitate the organization of an Arts and Culture Council to coordinate interests and actions of its members and promote arts and culture resources to residents of Kawartha Lakes. An Arts and Culture Council will strengthen existing communities of interest in Kawartha Lakes and will provide a focused, integrated, and consistent approach for handling arts and culture concerns and initiatives. The membership of the Council should be broadly based to bring together the variety of interests of those that would benefit from the coordination and joint service development that would be facilitated by the Council.

DATES TO REMEMBER

The mandate of the Council could include the following objectives:
• To play a lead advocacy role in the promotion of art and culture in the City. • To advise City Council on matters related to art and culture. • To integrate the planning activities of member organizations and other municipal departments. • To conduct research on topics relevant to the interests of member organizations and individuals. • To communicate information and resources among members and the community. • To recognize the achievements and contributions of members and residents that contribute to the development of the City’s arts and culture communities. • To assist in securing funds for art and culture projects and programs relevant to local residents. • To collaborate with other City Departments to promote the City’s arts and culture opportunities to tourism markets.
