KIDS

When shopping for a new mattress for children, it's tempting to sacrifice performance for economy, and looks for quality. Regardless of your child's age, make sure their mattress offers the best support possible. Infants It's essential that infants have a firm mattress that the baby doesn't sink into. Make sure the mattress fits snugly in the crib, to prevent the baby from slipping between the mattress and slats of the crib. If you like the crib but not the mattress, negotiate the price and buy your mattress separately. Toddlers Parents have a couple of options when your child outgrows her crib or needs to move up to make room for a new baby. Because children don’t weigh as much as grownups, they need a softer mattress in order for innersprings to conform to the shape of their bodies. • Toddler Beds: These are a popular option because they are low to the ground and come with side rails. Crib mattresses fit most toddler beds and can continue to support a 2-3 year old until they are ready to move up to a larger bed. • Twin Beds: Many parents opt to save money and go straight to a twin bed that the child will be able to stay with longer. You can put rails on the bed if rolling out is a concern. Big Kids Your choice of bed for older children will depend in part on the size of the room and how the room will be used. If the room is a play area, floor space will be at a premium. • Will two children be sharing the room? Do you anticipate frequent sleepovers? In these situations, twin beds, trundle beds and bunk beds are popular options. • If you choose bunk beds, make sure the mattress is not taller than the rails on the top bunk. • If the room will serve as a guest room, a full size or queen bed may be a more appropriate choice if space allows. Hand Me Downs While a hand me down bed that belonged to a beloved cousin or sibling may be cool, a hand me down mattress is not. If the mattress is no longer supportive for you or an older sibling, it’s not going to provide a young child with proper support for their growing bodies. The better your child sleeps, the happier you both will be in the morning. Would you like to set up your child’s Big Kid Bed appointment? Call 888-767-7533
