Apple iPhone Released in America in 2007, Apple’s iPhone was at the forefront of mobile phone technology. It won Time Magazines ‘Invention of the Year’ not long after it was launched, and sold hundreds of thousands of units. The original iPhone has since been replaced with a more advanced model the iPhone 3G. The iPhone 3G is roughly the same size and weight as its earlier counterpart. It also has the same screen size, liquid crystal display, and 2 mega pixel camera. Both models have been based on the same 3D graphics and touch screen technology which enables hands to tap through phone numbers, voicemail lists, text messages, and advanced level internet content. They also function as media/music players with the operating standards of an ipod, and an 8GB or 16 GB memory. Another useful feature common to both models is a proximity sensor, which will shut off screen operations during a call, saving battery life and unwanted inputs. But being a new, evolutionary model, the iPhone 3G, is packed with new and exciting features too. The 3G technology will enable faster web browsing either through 3G or Wifi networks. It also supports document and picture viewing, covering many different file extensions. You can also use your iPhone 3G for longer, as the extended battery life can give around 24 hours audio playback, 300 hours on standby, 6 hours of Wifi internet use. The battery is an integrated rechargeable one, which can be replaced if necessary through Apple or selected third parties. Applications are also an essential part of the iPhone 3G experience, and Apple has produced some of the best. This phone comes complete with a GPS system perfect for those out on the road, and full Ebay operations so you can make and keep track of your bids. As you’d expect from an Apple product, this new iPhone model also has access to an itunes store for you to stock up your audio player, and of course there are games to download too. Some games are free, others can cost in the region of £5. They include classic games like Monopoly and Tetris, with new applications always being developed. The liquid crystal display also has a sensor that will tilt the screen display according to what applications you are using. All in all there’s a lot squeezed into one light, fairly compact phone, and with technology evolving, who knows what else will feature on the iPhone in the future? The iPhone 3G is currently available on the O2 network in the U.K on a monthly or pay as you go basis. Pay as You go is the more expensive option, coming in over £300 pounds. The price of the phone on a monthly contract varies depending on which option you choose. More information is available from the Apple website or mobile phone retailers.
