DEADLINE FOR ENTRY

THEME

The Parade is titled “Winter Wonderland” and this year’s theme is “Holidays.” The theme gives everyone involved a chance to build and add to their ideas year after year. It is our hope that you, your family and friends will start a long tradition of being a part of Louisville’s most exciting holiday event. The parade is a celebration of the holiday season and a focal point of Light Up Louisville. The concept is designed to bring out the child in all of us and is a chance to remember the thrill of the coming winter weather… and snow! We encourage everyone to get involved – children, moms, dads and grandparents. There are no age limits. However, please keep in mind the distance of the route (6 city blocks) and possible weather conditions. TIME AND ROUTE The Winter Wonderland Parade will start at 4:00pm Friday, November 24, 2006. The parade will begin at a NEW LOCATION -- the City Parking Lot at 8th Street & Jefferson Street. It will head east on Santa Claus Lane (Jefferson Street), turn right onto Fourth Street and go through 4th Street Live! NOTE: The time to report to the assembly area and your unit position will be decided at a later date and mailed to you in your parade information packet.

THE SANTA CLAUS CLAUSE
The most obvious holiday character is Santa Claus and he will be making his grand arrival to the event to LIGHT UP the city. Therefore, NO units may include Santa Claus or Mrs. Claus in any of their presentations.

LETTERING & SIGNAGE

Proper unit identification is allowed and encouraged. You may use flags or banners either carried down the route or displayed as part of the float. You are responsible for your own signage. COSTS & FEES There are NO fees or charges to participate in the Winter Wonderland Parade, but we do ask that your group bring a toy or toys for the Toys for Tots program. TOTAL NUMBER OF UNITS The total number of units and persons participating in the parade is limited. Consideration for involvement will be given on a first come, first serve basis.

FLOATS A float unit may be as small as a child’s wagon or as big as a fully mechanized 30’ trailer. We encourage the use of as much color, music, holiday costuming and animation as possible. You must furnish your own materials, place to build and store your float. You must also furnish your own transportation to and from the parade assembly and dispersal areas. PERFORM AT MAIN STAGE Units are asked NOT to stop and perform along the route. Units may stop and perform once at the Main Stage on Jefferson Street with prior arrangements with the Parade Director. SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN Each participating organization with children must provide proper supervision and is responsible for adequate and safe transportation to and from the event. Each participating organization is responsible for obtaining written parent/guardian consent for each participating child. Each organization must ensure that each child is physically able to participate and is properly attired for the weather conditions.

ANIMAL & PETS

No personal live animals or pets are allowed as any part of any parade unit.

AWARDS

There will be NO judges or special reviewing stand. There will be NO prizes or awards ceremony – just a cheering crowd! QUESTIONS Please contact Dell Courtney at (502) 228-5237 with any questions.
