A contract has been signed with a channel, One Gospel, on the DSTV satellite subscription platform, with a footprint that covers the entire African continent. The free-to-air channel, Soweto TV, will broadcast Turning Point to viewers in Soweto, in terms of a contract just signed. During the last month a Christian satellite station, Maranatha TV, has begun airing the International 700 Club and Turning Point on the free-toair Vivid platform that reaches the whole continent. Top Prayer Points Pray for the family of Hasmir Youssef who died in suspicious circumstances last month. He was a dedicated missionary to his own people in Zanzibar and, during a brief visit back to his family in Tanzania, he was taken to hospital where he died. He was given a rushed Muslim funeral by his brothers, and his wife and 9 children were confused until one of Hasmir’s converts from the island went to minister to them. We also wrote emails to them assuring them that in spite of the kind of funeral Hasmir received, he was, on the authority of God’s Word, present with the Lord. The family is again standing firmly on God’s Word, but need the comfort of the Holy Spirit and the Body of Christ. Pray for the new television channels that have started to air CBN programs, and for the new audiences they will attract. There are an estimated 10,000 child labourers in South Africa (this excludes children in sexual slavery), most of whom are trafficked into slave-like conditions. (Anex CDW, 2008). Based on the SAPS Annual Report 2007/08, 1,410 children under the age of 18 were murdered and 16,068 were raped. This is a 22% increase and a 7% decrease on 2006/07 numbers respectively (South African Police Services). Pray that the CBN children’s ministry operating every weekday of the year in Orange Farms will continue to bring children from 4 to 16 into a living relationship with Jesus Christ. Future Plans We plan to consult with other international Christian production groups in the planning of a television special, which can also be used for DVD distribution, for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa in 2010. At a conference in Pretoria in June we plan to meet with other Christian groups and develop strategies for evangelism in next year’s FIFA World Cup in South Africa. After the public broadcaster removed all Christian programs from their schedules about two years ago, a contract with One Africa Television, a private company with a reach covering 90% of the country, has just been concluded. A contract has been signed with a channel, One Gospel, on the DSTV satellite subscription platform, with a footprint that covers the entire African continent. They will air One Cubed weekly on their channel, and as a barter deal supply CBN with three music videos per week. Production The production department documented a building project in the township of Thembisa, filming a group of volunteers who worked side by side with experienced builders on a house project. Interviews included one with exchampion boxer Baby Jake Matlala. They also interviewed a veteran of 15 Comrades Marathons and later travelled to Pietermaritzburg and Durban to cover the start and finish of this year’s race, as well as much of the action during the marathon. Work on post-production has begun on the human-interest story of the race. In Kwa-Zulu Natal they also documented more stories of CBN’s water wells project. After conducting 9 interviews with possible candidates, we made a decision, together with 700 Club producers, to appoint a new producer for the region. Nastassja Tait begins work in June. Humanitarian Highlights (Report is available from OB E&S Africa) Training, Cell Church Planting, Evangelistic and Discipleship Highlights In 208 media events in the townships and informal settlements of South Africa, a total of 17,877 people were led to Christ, an average of 217 per film show. I am happy with how you have blessed people; your words bless my heart. - Anonymous Hi, am really grateful to God for healing me. I believe one day I’ll share my testimony with CBN. - Anonymous Hello, last week I asked you to pray for my family and for now there’s a difference. Please continue praying for us and for my husband to get a job. - Phyllis Praise God. Am glad to share with you how Jesus has been good to me. In the past, I was raped at age 6-7, rejected and hated by my parents who insulted and abused me - especially my mum who influenced my dad. I grew up filled with fear, low self-esteem, and loneliness. All my efforts were always frustrated and I suffered from severe depression, but I couldn't admit it. I have for a long time been watching 700 Club and TP. One day I visited CBN offices for counseling and prayer, and then I sent email prayer requests to CBN. My problems were not over yet but God used them for my good. My life was touched……… I was healed from depression instantly. People are now viewing me differently. I’m free from sin and I experience one miracle after another of healings, provision and favor. I’m doing well in college. I used to cry and wish I was dead, but I have a reason to live and to help God's children in accordance to His will. I thank God for having you to pray and encourage me, and also for blessing me with good programs and website. Thank you and may the Lord bless you. - Sister Winfred Hi Turning Point, I thank God for what is happening in my life. I stopped watching pornography! I thank you all for your prayers. - Chichi Mozambique I was desperate, wanted to die, but when I made the decision to turn on my TV I realized that there was an evil in my whole life causing panic. I persevered in prayer and God opened my understanding and I received Jesus as Lord and Savior. Today, I’m free from fear and addiction of cigarettes. I’m living a normal life and growing in my faith. I’m finally able to sleep and wake up, and peace reigns in our home - Vanda Chimoio – 54-year-old Maria Julia felt the presence of God for the first time after requesting prayers. She told us that she cried every day and had no peace to live. The husband was addicted to gambling and lost all the assets of the couple. The suffering of Maria did not end there: one day, she was in the car with her husband and children, when an accident killed all three. As the only survivor, she was thrown out of the car and not seriously hurt. She searched for refuge in the Lord. “Only God could console someone who lost all the family, like me. I remember praising God for sparing me. Some months later, a pastor invited me to serve in the ministry. I found peace in the Lord and am a happy woman." I am requesting prayer for God to heal my sister who is slowly recovering from heart by-pass surgery. Satan is using her husband to turn the focus from her divine healing to the work of the devil. I ask that God intervenes and takes control of her problem. - Anonymous Thank you God for all your blessing and for so many prayers you have answered in the last few days. You have helped to rebuild my faith in a wonderful way and in doing so my relationship with you has grown. This is my biggest blessing, getting to know my Father in heaven. - Anonymous Malawi One lady from Lilongwe, after watching Turning Point, called the counseling center because her landlord had given her family an ultimatum to vacate the house. They had not paid the rent because the husband’s salary was held up, due to his organization not receiving the promised donor funds. We prayed with the lady on the phone and the following day she called to say that the landlord had told them they could remain in the house until the money came through. He even told them that their rentals would be reduced. We have been counselling a lady in Lilongwe with a marital problem. Her drinking husband was not saved and had had an extra-marital affair. She has now testified of God’s goodness, because the husband now is a changed man.
