New Hampshire I NEWSLETTER
Prez's Pen - August 2005 Well summer is finally here, don’t blink or you just might miss it! The past several weeks have been fantastic for riding. For those of you who missed them, NH-IV sponsored two great rides this past month and I don't know how anybody could have missed them with all the advance/repeat notices given. The first ride was the "notch ride" and what a day it was weather wise. We covered around 350 miles, or so, had a nice lunch and then dessert at the "great lost bakery" The next weekend was a run up to White River Jct, Vermont with lunch at a diner, we checked out an old locomotive being restored and then back home via back roads. What other motivation do you need other than to ride with friends on a nice day. The Corn Roast is literally just around the corner so if you haven't yet given your donation for the raffle/auction to Dave Gladu PLEASE do so or bring it to the corn roast. The date, if you've forgotten is Sat, August 13th. WE will need help that day to make this event successful and fun for all. Assistance will be needed in manning the registration table with Tama; setting up and running the bike events with Bill Rawnsley; selling raffle/auction tickets: selling the new corn roast T-shirts; and organizing the tables and I call on all NH-I members to act as greeters and make all attendees feel welcomed. The only other thing we really need is for the weather gods to cooperate. Hope to see you ALL there. RWP The Prez

me in the dust, but waited down the road for me to catch up through the up and down twists and turns. It was like an old family reunion at Lafayett, LA. In addition to Ken Forbes, Dianne Schuett, Janine and Roger, Tama and Gil of NH I, former members Paul and Barbara Griffin and Rick Robbins were there. Ken drove his truck down with Breen Savage (his bike in the truck bed), Dianne, Roger and Janine flew. Tama and Gil put on just shy of 3,900 miles riding. On the way down we were met on day two and three with remnants of a couple of hurricanes - almost 1,700 miles in three days - not bad. The worse part about it was not knowing if Tama's bike would start whenever we stopped. Estimate 2 out of three times, Gil would have to push to get me started. While there we took a trip to the Tabasco plant and sampled Tabasco ice cream. We also stopped in St. Martinville to see the Evangeline Tree and visit the museum. Lunch or dinner was provided every night as part of registration. Though good, most were not interested in eating more rice by wed. One thing I can say about the food wherever we ate - it was good and it was plentiful. We did a bit of visiting on the way home and toured the Blue Ridge Parkway. Gil's kind of road - he left

WALDO PEPPERS CRUISE NIGHT At the Dairy Bar run today, the question was raised if Waldo Peppers Bike Cruise Night still exists? Yes, it does, and is every Weds. begriming at 6 PM. The event is informal and all bikes, individuals and club affiliations are welcome. There is one change from last year: the event is no longer sponsored by the Star Riders, and is actually self-sponsored by Waldo Peppers. Long story short - political problems within the Star club, and a new President who tried to end the event because he didn't like Waldo's and didn't want non-Star members. So, many of the original Star Riders, those who had organized the Bike Cruise Night from the beginning, broke away and formed Lakes Region Riders, The group is actually sponsored by Waldo Peppers. The new "club" is very informal and is just a group of friends who ride together - no dues, no rules, no BS. I have been told that Blue Knights are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend Cruise Nights and any of their rides. You will often find me at Cruise Night, and I don't know anyone who has ever been disappointed with the food or portion size. Bruce & Barb, the owners of Waldo's, are friends of mine & I want to strongly encourage attendance. If you like lobster rolls, you have to try theirs!! Ed Cowing President NH IV

NHIV – August Rides 7th - I was recently contacted by a representative of the Multiple Sclerosis Bike Event to see if any Blue Knights would be interested in helping out the day of their ride. The ride is August 7. This is a bicycle event that has been held for 21 years. NOTE: they are not asking us to do any "police traffic work". They are working with all PD's involved for that. We would not be doing any tasks to cut down on PD's OT. One thing that they thought that we could do it ride the route during the ride (with CB's) to report on any bike incidents, lost riders etc. The volunteer registration form is attached and the 2nd page explains the volunteer work they are looking for. They are providing food (lobster/bbq; lodging - at St. Joes college or area to camp) for those from out of town. Please let me know if you are interested. I will be unavailable as I will be in Canada that week, however I will be willing to coordinate any BK efforts[BKNEWSED@aol.com]. My cousin has MS and has been confined to a wheelchair for 5 years now, so I do have a personal interest in this. Let me know thanks take care Mike Fletcher{BKNEWSED@aol.com} 12th – 14th NY-II Suicide Run Tony"Scooter"Boyer – BK2scooter@comcast.net or Jay Miranda – MRHUNK2002@yahoo.com
