Serving Up a Tasty 40 Year Old Tradition
Pittsford, New York, September 27, 2006 –
What’s been around for 40 years, is still going strong, and TASTES GREAT? The Rotary Club of
Pittsford’s Pancake Supper.
The first Pancake Supper began on Election Day in 1967 in the Baptist Church on South Main Street. It
moved to the Commons in Pittsford Mendon High School in the early 1970s and has been held there
continuously ever since. While the income generated from serving several thousand pancakes is not the
largest Pittsford Rotary fundraiser, the event is considered to be one of the social highlights of the year.
The Pancake Supper is a fun, mouth-watering way of raising money for the many worthy causes the
Pittsford Rotary supports. The food is terrific! All diners receive unlimited pancakes, three sausage links,
applesauce, beverage, and ice cream.
Again this year very special guests of the Rotary will be World War II veterans living in Pittsford. Chet “the
Magician” and Nothard will entertain the youngsters. Plus, Pittsford Musicals will tantalize diners with a
brief sample of their upcoming show "42nd Street". Add to that the opportunity to get together with friends
and family during an otherwise dreary time of year.
Over the years, while the price of the Pancake Supper has been only slightly affected by inflation, the
number of people served has grown dramatically. Last year more than 1000 patrons enjoyed their dinners
in two and one half hours time! In order to accommodate such a large, hungry crowd, Rotarians and
friends work tirelessly over four large griddles, while others serve and help keep tables cleared and re-set.
The Pittsford Mendon High School custodial staff, Fire Stations #1 and #2, and the Conti Packing
Company provide additional support.
So, save your appetite! This year’s Pancake Supper will be held as always on Election Night, Tuesday,
November 7 from 5:00 to 7:30pm at the Pittsford Mendon High School. Tickets are $5.00 per adult and
$3.00 per child aged 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased from any Pittsford Rotarian or at the door.
