The bi-weekly newsletter for National Standard Cycle Instructors ROTHERHAM NEED A NEW CYCLING INSTRUCTOR Pedal Ready operates as a co-operative and currently has 8 members mainly giving lessons in schools but also one-to-one lessons to people of all ages, group lessons to employers, youth groups etc. They have recently been offered a large (£60,000) contract with Rotherham Council. This is fantastic news and a great opportunity. However before they can accept this contract they need to urgently recruit a new instructor. This job could be either full-time or part-time but either way will involve substantial guaranteed work, hopefully for up to 3 years. There is also the opportunity to combine the work with work in Sheffield. We can arrange training which they are hoping will be free. For more details or to express your interest please contact Dave Baillie, Pedal Ready Tel: 0114 2665160 E-mail: dave@baillie.go2000.co.uk CYCLING SOLUTIONS VACANCY FOR 3 INSTRUCTORS IN MERSEYSIDE Merseyside based Cycling Solutions is looking for 3 new instructors to join its team of 33. CENTRAL FOUNDATION GIRLS SCHOOL IN BOW ALL GEARED UP Students from the Central Foundation Girls School in Bow helped London gear up for Bike Week, thanks to a £5,000 grant from the Transport for London funded Cycle London Promotion Partnership (CLPP). More than 80 students and female relatives of the predominantly Muslim girls school have signed up to take part in the school’s new cycle training club delivered by National Standard instructors, which has been set up with the funding. As many of the girls have never had the opportunity to ride a bike before, their training will cover the basic skills through to becoming confident road cyclists. WHY ARE WOMEN AFRAID TO CYCLE? Darlington is one of three places in Britain chosen as a pilot scheme to encourage people to use alternative forms of transport... and it seems that women are more reluctant than men to get out of their cars and hop onto a bike. A survey found that only 15 per cent of cycle trips were made by women. So why are women reluctant to climb into the saddle?
