1191 Colt Single Action Army Revolver .45 cal., 5 ½” bbl., factory style “A” engraved, nickel
plated, Medallion Pearl grips, #356525. This pistol was formerly in the Joe Kaiser Collection
which was considered one of the finest single action collections ever assembled and Joe (who
was a former President of the Colt Collector’s Association) is still considered one of the
Premier Experts on Antique Colt S.A.’s. No factory records exist from 1938 however this
single action is unquestionably factory “A” engraved by Wilbur Glahn in our and Mr.
Kaiser’s opinion (see page 295) “The Book of Colt Engraving” by R.L. Wilson for similar
example. The pistol retains approx. 98-99% original factory nickel with razor sharp edges
and markings, almost no trace of firing or use. The grips are near fine with a couple of
minor chips. The left front trigger guard bow shows an ampersand and lower “vp” proof, a
second set of 3 digit assembly numbers in the interior. It is our opinion that this Colt was
factory engraved through the nickel in the late pre-war era (1938) on special order when
Colt was not stocking Eng. S.A.’s. A folder of Research and information compiled by a noted
Southern California Collector accompanies this lot. Est. $9,000-18,000

1269 Continental double barrel flintlock shotgun converted to percussion, originally ca. about
1790, converted approx. 1820-1840. The conversion re: hammers and bolsters appears to be
an American style conversion as the Europeans would have most likely engraved the
hammers on this high quality of a sporting arm. Accompanying this gun is a notarized
affidavit testifying that this particular gun belonged to the 2nd Governor of the state of
Vermont, Isaac Tichenor who worked as a Commissioner for Purchases in the Northern
Dept. of the Continental Army and when Vermont became a state in 1791 he served as Chief
Justice of the Supreme Court for the state of Vermont. He built Tischenor Place in
Bennington in about 1792 where he lived until 1838. His nickname was “The Jersey Slick:”
as he was a charming campaigner. Tischenor is buried in the old 1st Church in Benninbgton
where his monument stands near the entrance. The gun has descended in the Lyman family
and the affidavit is signed by Helen Chapin, the great-granddaughter of Catherine Lyman
who was adopted by Tischenor. The gun remains in fair condition showing scattered light to
moderate rust and erosion and slightly heavier pitting to the breech areas from firing, stocks
are good with normal use, small breaks and repairs and a major break at the wrist. The
styling and configuration of the gun is typically French which were considered high grade
sporting arms at the time of Tischenor. Est. $1,000-2,000
