Congratulations…
We are delighted that you have chosen to celebrate your Wedding Day at Sudbury House. I am confident that the expertise, courtesy and friendliness of our staff and, of course, the excellent quality of food and service here will enhance your very special day. The hotel’s sympathetic blend of old and new architecture means we can offer exactly the right room to provide a stylish and comfortable setting for your wedding. Your most special of days can be as formal or informal as you wish – get married in a church, or get married in the Hotel – the choice is yours. In the 18th Century part of the building, the panelled Oxford Room is perfect for a civil marriage ceremony with up to 60 guests, whilst the Folly Restaurant can accommodate up to 160 guests for both the marriage ceremony and the wedding breakfast. Whatever your plans, the details within this brochure should be able to assist you with your initial plans, or we will be happy to design the day especially to your individual requirements. So that the party can carry on into the small hours, we offer preferential accommodation rates for wedding guests. We are also pleased to offer a complimentary bedroom for the Bride and Bridegroom, but this must be confirmed when you book your reception. To make the wedding night that extra bit special, you can choose to upgrade to the luxurious Hartley Suite for a modest charge. I am sure that the information enclosed, together with the expert assistance of our staff, will help you to plan your day. You have my assurance that, in selecting Sudbury House for your wedding, you have chosen an ideal location in which to start what I hope will be a long, happy and successful life for you both together.
Andrew Ibbotson, General Manager
Upon your Arrival…
Should you choose to get married in a church, your guests will be directed to the 18 th Century entrance of the Hotel where a drink and perhaps some canapés will be waiting. From here they can leave any presents and cards for you, before making their way outside into the gardens, to be included in any photographs you would like. We often recommend that you, the newly married bride and groom, be driven directly onto the patio in the garden where your guests will await your magnificent arrival!
A Civil Marriage Ceremony…
Of course, you can also choose to get married in the Hotel. The service is performed by the Chief Superintendent Registrar for the area and is a very popular choice as the start to a relaxed, perhaps less formal day. Our most popular marriage ceremony rooms are the Oxford Room in the “old house” and the modern Folly Restaurant. Sitting Room Seating up to around 20 guests, this is a quaint, cosy room in the “old house”. Garden Room The Garden Room has patio doors opening up directly into the garden next to the croquet lawn and is suitable for up to 25 guests. Terrace Room A modern, first floor room with doors out onto a balcony that overlooks the garden. This room is suitable for a total of around 50 guests. Oxford Room The panelled Oxford Room is our most popular civil marriage room, due to a combination of the size, the location and the style of the room. Around 60 guests can share the ceremony with you in the Oxford Room. From here, it is ideal for the bride and groom to walk out into the 18th Century foyer, through the adjacent Garden Room and out into the garden. Should the weather be unfavourable the Oxford and Garden Rooms also inter-connect for drinks, canapés and photographs. Folly Restaurant This modern room is suitable for up to our maximum of 160 guests. Due to the large size of the room, there are various layouts available, including the ability to divide the room into smaller sections. If this room is utilised for the marriage ceremony, we would normally allow slightly more time for drinks, canapés and photographs (in order for the room to be changed ready for the wedding breakfast), although this will depend on the exact layout of your particular day.
Other Important Information
The content of the civil marriage ceremony can be tailored to suit your own wishes, however there are a few rules related to it; for example, any music must be non-secular in content. We highly recommend that you fully discuss your own individual requirements with the Registrar at the time of booking. Should you wish to dress the civil marriage room with flowers, we would recommend choosing a style that can easily be moved (such as pedestal arrangements or vases), as we can then move these through into the main reception room for you during the meal. There are two costs involved with a civil marriage ceremony, although the combination of these charges is likely to remain lower than a traditional church service. The Hotel makes a single charge for the costs involved with the setting up and use of the marriage room, whilst you must also pay the Registrar to perform the marriage ceremony. Call our Events Office on 01367 245345 for details on our Registrar.

Guest Bedrooms
The planner above includes the standard charges made for a Wedding at the Hotel. This does not include the cost of any bedrooms for guests, as most Weddings prefer guests to be responsible for booking (and paying) their own rooms.
Civil Marriages
If you are getting married in the Hotel, please remember that the £195 charge made by the Hotel is in addition to the charge(s) made by Oxfordshire Registry Office.
Other Costs
We highly recommend that you book all other items directly with other companies, such as Flowers, Cars, Clothing, Photographer, Videographer, Pianist, Disco, Band, Cake, etc. This gives you the opportunity to ensure that everything meets your own personal requirements.
Viewing the Hotel
Please contact either the Events Office (01367 245345) or the Duty Manager (01367 241272) to arrange a show-round to view the Hotel. We highly recommend that you arrange an appointment in order for you to be able to fully see all of our facilities, and for us to ensure that we have enough time to answer any questions that you may have. Please note that we do not arrange any show-rounds while we have a wedding running in the Hotel (as we are concentrating our complete resources on the wedding in hand).
