Welcome to the 18th edition of the Cheshire and Merseyside Modernisation Bulletin. The aim of the bulletin is to share information on modernisation activities relevant to Cheshire and Merseyside on a regular basis in one place. It is not intended to replace other communications, but to enhance the sharing of information on a wide range of activities. This bulletin can be found on the Strategic Health Authority‟s website at www.cmha.nhs.uk/Modernisation/modern.htm. DEVELOPING A FRAMEWORK FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE (COPD) ACROSS CHESHIRE AND MERSEYSIDE NETWORK EVENT : 6 APRIL 2004, WALTON HALL, WARRINGTON In order to spread some of the work health communities have been doing in this area and to look together at a mechanism for ensuring health communities and individuals build and use networks within Cheshire and Merseyside on COPD, we would like to invite you to an event on Tuesday 6 April from 10am at Walton Hall, Warrington. On this day we hope to: Share feedback on the self-assessment exercise - understanding who is doing what and where in Cheshire and Merseyside. Showcase several examples of work undertaken by organisations in Cheshire and Merseyside to develop COPD services. Learn how the National Primary Care Development Team can support you in developing services for patients with COPD. Provide an opportunity to discuss the development of networks around the delivery of COPD services. Encourage individuals and teams working in this field to link to others across the SHA engaged in similar work.

‘IT’S YOUR CHOICE' - 11 MAY 2004, AINTREE RACECOURSE Major event for patients, service users and carers This is a major event for patients and carers on choice. Sponsored by Cheshire and Merseyside Strategic Health Authority, this (free of charge) event is an opportunity for patients, service users and carers in Cheshire and Merseyside to share their views and influence how we can make that choice a reality. We hope the event will raise awareness of the action being taken to provide more choice in the NHS and hopefully encourage some of the attendees to become involved in helping us to develop our plans, for example on information needs for patients. We are hoping to attract a large number of members form the newly established Patient and Public Involvement Forums and hope that many of these can become advocates for choice and help to spread awareness. This will be an event with a difference - patients and carers will set the agenda. Flyers are being produced and will be distributed widely.
