Arriving In Shanghai
Shanghai is one of China’s main travel hubs and arriving from anywhere is very easy as Shanghai is the only city in China that has two international airports. There are now over forty Chinese and foreign airline companies operating in Shanghai, operating about 300 routes, including one third international routes. The second phase of Pudong International Airport opened at the end of 2007; its capacity will reach 60 million passengers per year and be the transfer hub in Asia. The shuttles and taxies are all very convenient to get you different places downtown, while the maglev train with a blazing speed of 430km/hour is also open to the public.

Public Transportation
Buses and Metro There are more than 600 bus lines, including some night bus services, criss-crossing the city. Shanghai’s fast-growing metro network now has 8 lines with another 5 lines under construction. By 2010, there will be 13 rail lines in operation with a total distance of more than 400 km/248 miles. The trains are fast, cheap and fairly user-friendly with most signs also in English, but the trains can get very busy at rush hour. You can now transfer between lines freely with a single ticket. The metro accepts Shanghai’s public transportation card. Taxis Taxi is generally a good choice for transportation in the city. The basic fee is only $1.5 for the first 3 km/1.8 miles in the day time. A 5 minute waiting time equals 1 km of charge.

Shanghai Museum Seating Capacity 200 Its unique architectural form of a round top with a square base, symbolizing the ancient Chinese philosophy that the square earth is under the round sky, is a distinguished architectural combination of traditional features and modern spirit. The present Shanghai Museum has eleven galleries and three special temporary exhibition halls. Shanghai International Convention Center Seating Capacity 3,000 The venue where great events and important meetings have been held. The auditorium seats 800 and is equipped with an advanced simultaneous translation system that can translate up to ten different languages. Shanghai Exhibition Center Seating Capacity 1,500 Located in the central downtown, Shanghai Exhibition Center is a Russian neo-classic building from the mid-1950s. 20,000 sqm/2215,300 sqft of exhibition area, 42 multifunctional halls, plus 5,000 sqm/53,825 sqft of indoor storage space. Expo Center This is a new convention center that will be put into use after World Expo 2010 Shanghai China. With a 7,200 sqm/77,508 sqft multifunctional ballroom and several other ballrooms, over 100 small and moderate meeting rooms, the Expo Center will be an advanced convention venue to cater for 7,000-8,000 delegates after 2010.

General Information
Museums The history of Shanghai can be traced in several museums in the city. Shanghai Museum showcases the best collection of antique objects the city has to offer, ranging from bronze, ceramics, statues of furniture and costumes. Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center displays all the achievements the municipal government has made. Shanghai History Museum is where you can learn about the history of Shanghai since the mid-1800s. Art/Theatre The art scene in Shanghai is vibrant, with hundreds of galleries spreading all over the city. Shanghai Art Museum is where the major art exhibitions and events are held. The most noteworthy show is the Shanghai Biennale, an international art exhibition that runs every two years. Designed by Charpentier’s France, the new style architecture of Shanghai Grand Theater combines Eastern and Western flavor. The theater hosts opera, ballet and symphony events, within three theaters. With 1,800 seats, the lyric theater is divided into the auditorium, the 2nd-floor, the 3rd-floor and six balconies. The drama theater has 750 seats and the studio theater has 300 seats. The new theater is the Expo Performance Center with 18,000 seats which is the newest great culture venue in the Expo 2010 Shanghai China. Shopping Shanghai is where you shop till you drop. There are a great number of shopping malls in Shanghai. Shopping streets and antique streets are where you may enjoy bargaining much more than shopping. The most famous shopping areas are Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road and Xujiahui. Eating Experiences Shanghai was once known as the Adventurer’s Paradise. Today, such an adventure takes place on your plate. In Shanghai, you could find almost every cuisine from all over China and many other countries as well.

World Expo 2010 Shanghai China A worldwide event to be held in Shanghai in 2010 with economic, scientific, technological and cultural exchanges, displaying historical experience, exchanging innovative ideas, demonstrating esprit de corps and looking to the future. With the participation of over 230 countries and international organizations around the world, 70 million visitors from domestic and overseas are expected to visit this great event in Shanghai next year. The Bund The Bund is a symbol of Shanghai. The buildings are about or over one hundred years old and harmonious in color and style, thus gaining the name of Gallery of World Architecture. There are the Gothic pointed roofs, ancient Greek vaults, Baroque columns and Spanish balconies. Oriental Pearl Tower The Oriental Pearl TV Tower, completed in 1994 with a height of 468 meters/1,400 feet, is the highest in Asia and the third highest in the world, only next to the TV towers in Toronto, Canada and Moscow. It is an integrated center, combining sightseeing, catering, shopping, entertainment, hotel accommodation, broadcasting and TV transmission into one entity. Yuyuan Garden A famous classical garden in south China, and it was once famed as the “top beauty in southeast China”. First built during the Ming Dynasty, 400 years ago, it is now one of the key relic sites in the country under state protection. Xin Tian Di It is the amusement center and may be the most modern place in Shanghai, complete with catering service, bars, shopping, and performance facilities of the latest fashion. But what attracts people most is all the fashionable things are in the reproduced Shanghai’s “Shikumen” (traditional architectural style). Jade Buddha Temple It’s a famous temple known for the two jade Buddha statues of a legend enshrined in it. The magnificent architecture of the temple is of the Song Dynasty palace type.
