Minnesota Hockey requires a State/County Government issued birth certificate for all new registrations as proof of eligibility. You must bring this certificate with you to registration. Hospital or Church issued certificates will not be accepted. A late fee of $50 will be assessed to each current player who registers after 12:00 Noon on September 12, 2008. This fee does not apply to new players or to Junior Gold players. *Please note that ALL overdue fees and/or unpaid fundraising fees from prior years MUST be paid prior to registration for the 2008-09 Season.

MANDATORY
Effective May 1, 2008, every skater and coach must register online with USA Hockey. In the past this $40 fee was included as part of your registration fees and MYHA filed these fees on your behalf.

To register: Log onto www.usahockey.com or use the hockey link via our MYHA website. Click on the following prompts: Register Online, Ice Players & Coaches, Confirm Participation and Register for 2008-09 Season. Please give your child’s legal name, no nicknames please. Upon completion of the form you will be asked to enter a credit card number for the $40 fee. ($30 for USA Hockey and $10 MYHA – Affiliate) If you do not have a credit card, the suggested work around for this issue is to purchase a reloadable VISA gift card to cover the cost of the $40 fee. You will receive a confirmation letter that you MUST bring with you to registration. Please note: You will not be allowed to register with MYHA until you have received this confirmation letter.

2008 GOLF TOURNAMENT
MYHA and Moorhead Boys High School Hockey will be hosting their 7th Annual Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held Thursday, August 14th with a 12 Noon shotgun start at The Meadows Golf Course, Moorhead. Individual registration is $65, which includes a golf cart, 18 holes of golf and lunch. The fee for Hole and Team Sponsorship is $425. If you have misplaced or lost your registration form, please stop by the MYHA Office to register. Be sure to register soon as registration is limited to 36 teams.

DONATE CELL PHONES
In 2007 MYHA started a cell phone recycling program whereby MYHA receives a rebate check for the old/unused cell phones that we donate. These cell phones will be utilized for 911 purposes in the US, redeployed nationwide and used in developing countries worldwide to improve quality of life through communication. A drop box is located in the arena lobby. Please place your unused cell phones in the box or bring them to the office to support this worthwhile cause.

2008 MYHA Puck and Goalie Challenge
The 2008 Puck and Goalie Challenge will resume Monday, August 4 with the same groups and time slots as the June session. Members registered must attend the August session to complete their required hours. Please refer all changes/conflicts in schedule times for the month of August to Nick Deutz. The MYHA program is structured for Bantam/U14, Peewee/U12 and Squirt/U10 age players. The players have been asked to commit themselves to specific hours at the MYHA arena during the months of June and August with supervisors at the arena to coach and monitor the participation of the registered players. MEETING NOTICE
The Board of Directors of Moorhead Youth Hockey meets the third Wednesday of each month in the MYHA boardroom. At each meeting, the financial records of the association and its gaming subsidiary are available for review by members of the association. All members are invited to attend. The next regularly scheduled meeting is on August 20, 2008, at 7:00 PM. If you would like to be added to the agenda, please call Joyce Hajostek one week prior to the scheduled meeting date at 233-5021 during the hours of 8am – 4 pm.

MYHA thanks the Tobolt family and all those who sponsored teams and participated in the Scott Tobolt Memorial Golf Tournament. We plan to use our technology to reduce the cost of postage and mailings generated.

NOTES FROM THE TREASURER…
As the 2008-2009 hockey season approaches, MYHA is excited about the upcoming year. There is nothing quite like watching our children participating in activities which they thoroughly enjoy.

Attn MYHA Girls’ Players and Parents: All interested girls can participate in the Greater Moorhead Days Parade. I know it's early, but if we have this event marked on our calendars now, come late August, it won't be such a surprise. It is scheduled for Friday, September 5. The parade route runs north on 20th Street from 28th Avenue to 8th Avenue South. For those of you who haven't had an opportunity to participate in the past, last year we won the emerald presentation award and the girls had a great time. A second parade that we can participate in will be determined at a later date. It will be one of the following: Moorhead High School’s, Concordia College’s or Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Homecoming parades. Please contact Colleen Odney at 233-8668 to volunteer or ask questions. Although we look forward to the upcoming year with great anticipation, there are also some financial challenges that we need to address. Simply stated, the association lost money last season. A steep downturn in gaming revenue was one of the contributing factors. Another factor is that the cost of items that MYHA needs to operate the arena, and the organization, continue to rise. We also made some great improvements to the arena in 2007-2008. We do not pay exorbitant salaries; we do not buy things that we do not need; we do not provide company cars, health benefits, lavish offices, or golden parachutes. We operate our organization as economically as possible and this approach has kept the cost of playing hockey very reasonable. We are hoping that with the Fargo smoking ban going into effect July 1st, we will start to see gaming revenues start to climb back toward their prior levels soon. We do not anticipate any major building maintenance projects this year. Hopefully these two items will converge this year to help make this a profitable year for MYHA. We will continue to do everything within our power to help keep playing hockey affordable for every member. Please remember, this arena, and association, belong to you. Chip in where you can, lend a helping hand and always remember, the more that we do ourselves; the less we have to pay to have someone else do it for us. See you at the rink, sooner than you think! We are looking for volunteers to work at the registration tables on Monday and Tuesday, August 4-5 and September 8 – 9, from 6 – 8 PM. If you can help, please contact either Diane Ambrosie 233-1301 or Tom Schoenfelder 287-6802.

TOBOLT LEASE EQUIPMENT USERS:
The time of year has come when we will be registering for the up- coming hockey season. During registration we would like to inventory and check ALL equipment that is currently outstanding. EACH PLAYER WITH OUTSTANDING EQUIPMENT MUST BRING THEIR LEASED EQUIPMENT TO REGISTRATION. Representatives will be available to check fit, make exchanges, and collect equipment from those players who are no longer eligible for the lease program. Registration dates: August 4th and 5th, 6 – 8 PM. You may arrive early to ensure the proper fitting of equipment. For the 2008-09 Season… 1st year Squirts - Please turn in ALL issued equipment. We ask that you do so on the FIRST day of registration so that we may reissue the returned items to players who will need it. 2nd year Mites –Please bring all equipment with you, we will check sizes and make any necessary changes. You will need to turn in your helmet. 1st year Mites - Please bring all equipment with you, we will check sizes and make any necessary changes, as you will be receiving shoulder pads. You will need to turn in your skates. 2nd year Rookies - Please bring all equipment with you, we will check sizes and make any necessary changes. REGISTRATION FEE PAYMENTS:
All fees pertaining to registration must be paid in full at the time of registration. No payment plans or delinquent fees will be accepted. Visa, Mastercard and Discovercard will be accepted for registration fees only. Fundraising payments for the purchase of raffle tickets can only be paid by cash or check per MN state law. ________________________________________

REFEREES NEEDED
Are you interested in learning more about the game of ice hockey? Does the idea of becoming a referee interest you? If these are a few questions you have been asking, we have a solution. Moorhead Youth Hockey has an ongoing need for people of all ages to act as youth hockey referees on a weekly basis. Classes will once again be offered to all interested parties who wish to learn more about becoming a referee. An informational meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 10th at 7 pm, MYHA Arena. The Level I and II Referee Seminar will once again be held at Fargo’s SW Arena. The date and time of the seminar will be announced at a later date. ________________________________________

TEAM SPONSORSHIPS
This is the time of the year when we begin looking for team sponsorships for our in-house and traveling teams. If you are interested in sponsoring an in-house team for $350 or a travel team for $550, please contact Tim Czichotzki 236-7197 or Todd Beedy 306-5045. ________________________________________

TOURNAMENT PROGRAM ADS
If you are interested in placing an ad in the Tournament Program Booklet, please contact Joyce in the hockey office at 233-5021. The deadline for ad submission is October 30, 2008.

2008 - 09 MYHA Girls Hockey Registration
Important note: The MYHA Hockey Committee would like to encourage all girls’, current and new, to register for the 2008 2009 season on time. The Hockey Committee will make decisions with regard to the structure of the U10, U12 and U14 season based upon hard numbers, not on a best guess.

Attention MYHA Hockey Players!!!!
MYHA will be hosting a contest this year to allow Moorhead Youth Hockey players to design the pins that we will use for the 2008-2009 season. We need your designs, so put your best drawing skills to the test. Two Categories MYHA Association Pin - Open to any MYHA hockey player from Rookie through Junior Gold. Squirt International Pin - Open to any MYHA Squirt player. Please submit your drawings to the MYHA office on a piece of paper or index card, at least 3” x 5”. The deadline for submitting your ideas will be August 15th. One winning design will be picked from each category and that winner will be the official pin for 2008-2009 for the Moorhead Youth Hockey Association and the Squirt International Tournament respectively. The design must include the following: It must contain no more than 3 colors. It must have the word “Moorhead” in the design somewhere. It must contain the years for the current season “08-09” or “2008-2009” Please include your Name, Address, Phone Number, Parents Names and Level Those are the only rules!! Now get busy, sharpen those pencils or crayons and start those creative minds working!! Let’s create a couple of fantastic pins for 2008-2009. Prizes will be awarded to the winner in each design category.

If you are interested in coaching for the 20082009 season, please see Derek Thompson and/or Greg Ness during registration, August 4 or 5 and September 8 or 9. Derek and/or Greg will be available to answer any questions that you might have. Coaches, please remember, do not register with USA Hockey until you have been confirmed by Greg Ness, Brad Franklin or Derek Thompson.

WANTED: ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Moorhead Youth Hockey is now accepting applications for the Administrative Assistant position. Applicants must have good communication skills with proficiency in both Microsoft Word and Excel. Responsibilities include but not limited to answering the phone, auditing pull tabs games, assisting the Office Administrator, the Gaming Manager, the Arena Manager and Tournament Chair. This is a part time position working approximately 25 – 30 hours per week. The salary will commensurate with experience and qualifications.
