PTTEP ends Clough deal for Montara facilities

The West Atlas drill rig and the well-head platform topsides, installed by Clough’s derrick/piplelay barge Java Constructor on August 7, suffered significant damage in the fire. Since the initial incident on August 21, the Java Constructor has been on standby, most recently in Singapore. However, the contract will now be closed out in accordance with the termination provisions and Clough did not expect an adverse effect on earnings. "We have offered our services to both (field operator) PTTEP and (rig owner) Seadrill to assist with the remedial work and will continue to work constructively for the best possible outcome," Clough chief executive John Smith said yesterday Meanwhile, PTTEP Australasia said it had surveyed the scene by helicopter to assess the damage and plan for the next phase of the operation. Thermal imaging technology used from the support vessel, Nor Captain, had shown the main fire-damaged area on the West Atlas and well-head platform had cooled. This had allowed the ALERT Well Control team to make its first close-up look at the fire damage. The team plans to re-board the well-head platform next week following a safety assessment approval from the National Offshore Petroleum Safety Authority
