We have arranged 39 international voluntary projects for the year 2009. International voluntary projects in 2009 INEX - Association for Voluntary Activities (INEX-SDA), Czech Republic. Before opening… Goals of an INEX - SDA workcamps Bringing together young volunteers from all over the world to contribute to different local community projects. Sharing ideas, skills and knowledge within the group of volunteers and between the volunteers and the local community. Promoting intercultural learning, tolerance and cooperation. Building social networks, making new friends. Encouraging an active and a responsible approach to both the environment and the society. Supporting local civic associations and non-governmental organisations focusing on rural revitalisation, natural and cultural heritage preservation and on social care.

Who we are? INEX - Association for Voluntary Service (INEX-SDA) was founded in 1991 as a nongovernmental, non-profit organisation whose primary goal is to promote international youth volunteering as a way to tolerance, understanding, community support and self-development. Our core activities consist of arranging short-, mid- and long-term international voluntary projects where young volunteers from all over the world come to exchange ideas, share their cultural knowledge and work for the benefit of the local community. Furthermore we are concerned with promoting global development education. Since 2003 we have been partners in a European global

education programme of GLEN (Global Education Network of Young Europeans), sending volunteers on various 3-month´s work and study projects in the developing countries and helping them multiply their experience of global development issues after their return. Last year we organised 38 workcamps hosting a total of 330 international volunteers in and we sent more than 670 Czech volunteers abroad. Besides we hosted long-term foreign volunteers participating in the European Voluntary Service programme. INEX – SDA is approved by the Czech National Agency as a hosting as well as a sending organisation. What are our objectives? Our main objective is to promote active participation in global issues on a local level and a responsible approach to the society and the environment. We try to use the potential of young volunteers to support local NGOs and civic associations in various environmental, social or community development projects. On one hand, volunteers will contribute their time, work, ideas, skills and different perspectives to the local community, on the other hand, they will obtain valuable life and work experience that they may find beneficial in their later lives and careers. Another important aspect of our voluntary project is to promote intercultural learning. We want our participants to experience an intensive intercultural exchange, make friends from all over the world and encourage the idea of tolerance, cooperation and peace. We join people who are united by the idea of volunteering as an exciting opportunity to express a responsible and an active approach to the environment and the society, a rewarding experience of helping, sharing, exploring and learning. Basic general information for workcamp participants Our Volunteers´ profile We expect your good will to come and help where help is needed. We don’t expect professionalism but we count on your interest in the programme. We cannot offer you luxurious accommodation and board, but only basic conditions corresponding with the focus of the project. We rely on your modesty and tolerance in this point. We put emphasis on involving the local community in the project activities counting on your active approach and initiative. We expect you to spend your leisure time actively and in accordance with the aims of the project. Rather than loafing, partying or visiting far-away tourist attractions, we invite you to take part in games, interact with the local community, explore the region on walks and trips or participate in local cultural events Age limits minimum age is 18 years (with exceptions from 17) no maximum age limit (with exceptions) Length of INEX workcamps:  14- 21 days Number of volunteers per work-camp: generally 2 - 18 Insurance: INEX-SDA does not provide any insurance for participants of the workcamps. We recommend volunteers to arrange their own insurance and bring necessary documents. In case of accident INEX – SDA does not take any responsibility for your harm or damage. Camp leadership:

INEX-SDA camps are led by one or two camp-leaders who are responsible for the camp budget and who coordinate the work. They co-operate with the local partners and facilitate the group decisionmaking. They suggest possible free-time activities and how to organize the work but they make common decisions with the group. Our camp leaders are required to complete an intensive 3-day training especially designed for their needs Camp language: English Letter of motivation: Please send us the letter of motivation for the marked projects! We need to know: WHO is coming so that we can plan a programme according to participants WHY do you want to come to take part in this project WHAT are your reasons to come WHAT sort of interests and experience do you have so that you can contribute to the dialogue about stated problems (for example countryside)

Our international voluntary projects are divided in four basic programmes and each project has its own code number: 1."Meetings in the Countryside" – volunteers will get involved into the daily life and work of a small, rural community, sharing local problems and the issue of rural sustainability 2."Hands and History" – volunteers will help with the renovation and maintenance of castles, chateaux or small monuments in the landscape 3."One to Another" – volunteers will co-operate with communities and associations providing support to people with special needs or socially disadvantaged children, etc. 4."Bridges to Nature" – volunteers will do environmental work, assist in nature and landscape protection, work in protected areas, eco-centres, etc. 1. Program "Meetings in the Countryside" This programme is based on projects focusing on helping small communities and on developing long-term co-operation between and within these communities. Volunteers will be involved in the daily life of a small community or an NGO and experience Czech rural lifestyle while working for the benefit of the community. Combining manual work with art workshops (traditional local handicrafts), seminars, trips, excursions and games, volunteers will get an insight into the issue of rural sustainability. Locals are invited to join in the camp seminars and activities to raise their awareness of different issues and to get a new perspective on the community management and environmental care.
