SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Father Tim is asking all parishioners to insure that their children are not climbing on the book racks behind the pews, these are only strong enough to hold books. We are also having a problem with the Hymnals being written in and torn. Please do not let your children play with the Hymnal Books. 2 Christian formation IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN – VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER: This summer’s program will take place during the week of Sunday, June 21 through Thursday, June 25th. Each year, we co-host this wonderful event with our brothers and sisters in Christ from Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. They will be the host site again this year. Our theme is CROCODILE DOCK. At this time, I need high school age and adult volunteers to assist in the following break out groups: Crawfish Crafts, Gator Games, the Dockside Drive-In and as crew leaders for two of the four different age groups. The program cannot be conducted without the help of many volunteers; so, please consider giving of your time for this event. Everyone involved has lots of fun and walks away having learned more about our faith. If you can help this year, please contact Glynnis Doolittle, 279-0315, ext. 109 no later than Monday, May 4th. The one meeting scheduled for all volunteers is scheduled for Thursday, May 14th at 6:30 p.m. If you want to help but are not available to attend the meeting, Glynnis will be happy to meet with you at your convenience. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES: The current school year comes to a close this weekend - Sunday, May 3rd. Already, plans are being made for the 09/10 school year that runs from September, 2009 to May, 2010. If you have a child that is school age (must be 4 years old by September 1, 2009) in grades PK4 through 8th, who is not currently registered in our Religious Education/Junior Youth Formation programs, please contact the Office of Christian Formation for a New Student Registration packet (803-279-0315, ext. 109). Registrations are being accepted now through July 1st. Supplies must be ordered by mid-July in order to receive them in time for the opening of classes. Students who wish to receive the Sacrament of First Eucharist are eligible in second grade provided they have completed a one year pre-requisite, and students wishing to be confirmed are eligible as of 8th grade provided they have completed a two year pre-requisite. Don't delay register your children now. Baptism: Baptism is the Sacrament that welcomes individuals into the Church, our spiritual family. This Sacrament also cleanses the person from their sin and offers us the hope and possibility of entering into Heaven with God at the end of our mortal lives. To prepare for this Sacrament, please call Glynnis at the Parish Office. Families seeking Baptism need to be registered parishioners of the parish, attending Mass regularly for a minimum of three months. THANK YOU! On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers of the ALS Association of Georgia, I thank the parishioners of Our Lady of Peace for your generous contribution of $825.59 in memory of Ray J. Kroger. We have informed the family of your thoughtfulness. In the book, Tuesdays with Morrie, Morrie Schwartz, himself an ALS patient, said, “We can die without ever really going away...You live on– in the hearts of everyone you have touched and nurtured while you were here.” Your memorial gift confirms this. When an ALS patient passes, it only strengthens our resolve to work harder to serve our current ALS patients and families. Our services include equipment loans, home nursing visits, counseling, support groups and contributions to national and international research efforts. We could not provide such services, however, without the charitable support that others offer to us. Thank you again for your generosity in making this memorial gift. Sincerely, Candace P.
