EASY POPCORN BALLS
2 c. sugar
1 c. light corn syrup
1 c. water
3 tbsp. butter
2 qts. Popped popcorn
Cook to 270 degrees or soft crack stage on top of stove. Pour over 2
quarts of prepared popcorn and mix thoroughly. Butter hands and
mold into balls.
MARSHMALLOW POPCORN BALLS
3 microwave bags popcorn
1 stick butter
1 lg. bag of lg. marshmallows
1 tsp. vanilla
For colored balls, add your favorite food coloring
Melt stick of butter over med. heat in sauce pan. Add marshmallows
and melt. Turn heat off and add vanilla and food coloring. While
melting butter, pop popcorn and take out any unpopped kernels. Put in
large enough pan to hold it all. Pour mixture over popcorn and stir
until popcorn is covered. Butter hands and form into balls.
OLD FASHIONED POPCORN BALLS
2 cups white sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup water
salt to taste
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar (optional)
5 quarts popped popcorn
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, corn syrup,
butter and water. Stir and heat to hard-crack stage or 300 degrees F
(150 degrees C). Remove from heat, add vanilla or vinegar; mix well.
Pour slowly over popped popcorn while stirring. Wait 5 minutes and
shape into 3 inch round balls.
Crunchy Popcorn Balls
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup margarine
2 teaspoons cold water
2 5/8 cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup marshmallows
5 quarts plain popped popcorn
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the corn syrup,
margarine, cold water, confectioners' sugar and marshmallows.
Heat and stir until the mixture comes to a boil.
Carefully combine the hot mixture with the popcorn, coating each
Grease hands with butter or vegetable shortening and quickly shape
the coated popcorn into balls before it cools.
Wrap with cellophane or plastic wrap and store at room
Caramel Popcorn Balls*
3 to 4 qts. unbuttered popped popcorn
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. white syrup (Karo)
1 stick butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
Microwave brown sugar, syrup, butter and salt for 2 minutes. Remove
and stir mixture. Microwave for another 2 minute period. Remove
and stir. Microwave for 1 minute. Remove and stir adding baking
soda. It will foam up. Pour over popcorn and stir. Form into 3 inch
*This recipe can also be used for caramel corn. Instead of forming
into popcorn balls, place popcorn in a paper bag and coat with
mixture. Shake and put back in microwave for 1 minute. Remove and
shake. Pour out onto greased cookie sheet or something similar.
