ing County is considering raising the speed limit on SE Klahanie Boulevard and Klahanie Drive SE and wants your opinion. The Board of Directors defers all judgment in this matter to the DOT and the Associations membership. The King County Road Services Division will hold a public meeting at 6:30 PM, Thursday, November 29, 2007, in the Klahanie area to hear and record comments on a proposal to raise the speed limit on the 2.5 mile stretch of SE Klahanie Boulevard/Klahanie Drive SE. The division is considering raising the speed limit from 25 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour on these two roads. A traffic analysis was performed due to concerns received from residents in the area. After reviewing the results, King County found the current speed limit to be inconsistent with the roadways and the neighborhood characteristics. The hearing will be held at the Challenger Elementary School in the Commons Area, which is located at 25200 SE Klahanie Boulevard, Issaquah. Written comments will also be accepted through November 26, 2007 and should be forwarded to Scott Sawhill, 201 South Jackson Street MS: KSC-TR-0222, Seattle, WA, 98104-3856. Comments can also be faxed to (206) 296-0176 or emailed to: scott.sawhill@kingcounty.gov. For more information, call the Traffic Engineering Section at (206) 263-6134.

7PM – 9PM Summerwalk Gym A meeting of all Klahanie residents who have an opinion on which type of fertilization techniques should be used in the common areas of Klahanie are invited to attend. The Board of Directors is interested in hearing all opinions so they can make an informed decision on which type to use in future planning and financial allocation.

2008 is going to be a year of positive change at Klahanie. Beginning in January of 2008, Klahanie Residents will have a brand new website to call their own. Changes will include a secure members link with the ability to pay dues online as well as view payment history. The Klahanie website is getting a face lift and will be filled with new content, pictures, Real Estate listings, classified ads and more!.

Klahanie has recently instituted a new policy for approving the ACC Applications. The Guidelines stipulate that most external modifications to your home or property require an ACC application that must be submitted to the ACC for approval. In previous years you had to wait until the monthly meeting (bimonthly in the summer) of the ACC to get approval and receive a work permit. NEW POLICY – any applications submitted that follow the guidelines exactly may be approved in 5 days from the date they are received in the office by the Community Relations Coordinator. IF for any reason the Community Relations Coordinator questions the application or the application is a special request it MUST wait until the next scheduled ACC meeting. Please make sure you apply for such changes as painting your house, new fences, new windows, new roof, new gutters, new driveway, satellite dish installation etc. PLEASE read the ACC guidelines to make yourself familiar with your requirements for making any changes. Failure to apply for a work permit can result in a $1000 fine and $100/day until the project is brought into compliance with the ACC guidelines. We are hoping that this new process will help Klahanie residents with their improvement projects and make it much more user friendly. Applications to submit for your projects can be found at www.klahanie.com/forms.

Klahanie would like to welcome a new staff member to our team. Judy joined our team in October and looks forward to meeting and assisting Klahanie residents. Judy Cochrane comes to us from a background of program administration and a small business owner. She has volunteered on the Rules Committee for many years and has now taken on the position of Community Relations Coordinator. She will coordinate work done by the ACC and Rules Committees and streamline the processes of both committees for the ease of use for Klahanie residents.

4.11 HOLIDAY DECORATIONS (from Klahanie Rules & Regulations) "All holiday decorations, including outdoor holiday lights, shall be put up no more than 30 days before the holiday for which they are displayed and removed no later than 30 days after the holiday for which they are displayed." Please remember to remove your decorations as soon as possible after a holiday. Rotting pumpkins from Halloween and Thanksgiving are always a source of concern for neighbors as these attract unwanted rodents and can become unattractive and quite smelly. Christmas decorations not removed by January 31st are also a source of a lot of work for the office. They require time both to check on homes whose decorations are still up and write the many letters for those who do not take the decorations down. All this extra time is reflected in your dues so complying with the above rule can help reduce the extra work and save money at the same time.
