“Elect Me and I’ll Take Away Your Worry” White watching the news recently, I heard one of the presidential candidates say, “We are facing a difficult time as a nation. People are worried about how they will pay for their children’s college, how they will pay their medical bills, if they will have enough money for retirement.” I thought about that claim and wondered if there was ever a time when people were not worried about those issues. This candidate was suggesting that times are more difficult now than in previous periods, therefore we should vote for him. Yet four years from now the next set of candidates will say the same thing, just as candidates have said in every previous election. Financial peace does not come by having a bank account full of money. It is true we tend to sleep better and worry less when we have a steady income than when we are out of work. But the world is full of people who have plenty of income and are still worried about money. They either worry that they don’t have enough money (define “enough”), or they worry that the flow of money will run dry. Financial worry is always a result of trusting in money, whether that be the amount of money we have, our ability to earn money, or the financial system upon which our society operates. Financial peace, on the other hand, comes when we shift our trust from money to God. That does not mean we stop earning a living or seeking out an income. It just means that we learn to trust in the love and power of God to take care of us no matter what the circumstance. As Solomon wrote, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread” (Proverbs 37:26). Don’t let the media, the current cast of presidential candidates, or even the balance figure in your checkbook scare you. Focus your attention on something more stable—God’s gracious love and care for you. Remember his promise “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). That is our source of financial peace no matter who is President. Children are an important part of the North Pointe church. For this reason we offer the following opportunities for children during our worship service: Nursery: A staffed nursery with pagers for parents, is provided during the worship service. The nursery for babies, toddlers and two year olds is located in E Hall past the restrooms. A separate, nonstaffed nursery is also available for parents to use as needed. *Children’s Offering: To teach our children the discipline of giving we provide them an opportunity to contribute in a visible way. This money is used for various ministries. **Children’s Worship: Because children have their own unique level of learning and expression we offer a special worship period for children 3 years of age through 4th grade. Children are dismissed to Children’s Worship following the Children’s offering. ***What is “Face to-Face with God”? This time during our worship service allows three opportunities for personal prayer. Your may: 1) remain in your seat and spend time privately praying to God, 2) go to the back of the cafetorium where a member of our prayer team will pray for you or with you, privately and in confidentiality concerning your prayer request, or 3) come to the front row of seats with your public prayer request where the prayer leader will include your request in his prayer concluding this period. *Saturdays and Sundays are reserved as days to re-read and reflect upon previous readings, or catch up on readings missed during the week.
