Table notes * Recommended or average retail price per dummy, or the price we paid in March 2006, rounded to the nearest five cents. (A) Available from birth and from six months (we tested the latter) and in cherry-shaped and orthodontic teats. (B) Discontinued June 2006. 1 Design and construction. We tested the teat, shield and ring or handle for smooth surfaces, correct functioning and acceptable dimensions. See Not recommended, for more on this. 2 Durability and strength. We tested the durability and strength of the dummy by stretching it, compressing it, ‘biting’ it, dropping a heavy weight on it and attempting to tear it. They all passed all these tests. 3 Packaging and labelling. We checked that the dummies were in appropriate packaging without attachments such as ribbons or pins, and that they were labelled with the appropriate manufacturing information, instructions and a clear and legible warning notice. Also tested We also tested the SAFETY 1st DISNEY BABY Pacifier A06171. This dummy passed our safety tests but was recalled in April 2006 due to a possible problem with its teat. It may be reintroduced to shops later this year.
