Microsoft Language Bar
Microsoft Language Bar Overview The Language bar enables you to easily switch between and perform tasks related to entering text. It can be turned on in Word by going to Tools and selecting Speech. Speech Recognition Overview The speech recognition feature allows you to literally speak to your computer via a microphone. With the appropriate system requirements, you can dictate text into Word, or you can switch to Voice Command, so that you can access menus. Use speech recognition: Speech recognition is installed in all Office programs by initially using the feature in Word 2003, or by doing a custom installation. For details see the Help topic, "Install and Train Speech Recognition." Configure the microphone and complete training by going to the control panel and selecting speech Handwriting Overview The handwriting recognition feature allows you to input your handwriting, either by controlling a mouse or by using a tablet. This input can be automatically converted to typed text, or it can be left as an "ink object" in your own handwriting. The handwriting recognition feature also supports onscreen keyboards as well as a drawing function, so that you can include hand-drawn sketches. Using Text to Speech in Word and Excel The language bar features a speak text option for Word. There is a separate toolbar for Excel. Voice preferences can be set through the advanced speech options in the language bar or through the control panel.

It is important to note that these features only work on an accessible PDF. Go to Document then select Quick Accessibility Check (Ctrl + Shift + 6) or use the text select tool. If you can not select text in the PDF then it can not be read out loud until OCR is run. OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. Adobe Professional can perform OCR.
