Carroll County Public Library Rewards and Recognition Program
Everyone Counts!
Everyone Counts!, Carroll County Public Library’s Rewards and Recognition Program, was created to celebrate the contributions of CCPL staff members, and to foster an atmosphere of appreciation, respect and motivation. At CCPL success is a direct result of our dedication, initiative, and teamwork. One way to celebrate all our achievements, both large and small, is to recognize the contributions that we make. Every one of us is essential to our Library’s success. At CCPL, Everyone Counts!

Helpful Hints About Rewards Employees are being asked to do more and to do it more autonomously. To support looser controls, managers need to create work environments that are both positive and reinforcing. Studies show that it is the “exceptional” manager who makes the effort to thank employees for a job well done. What tends to motivate people is the thoughtful, personal kind of recognition that signifies true appreciation for a job well done. Rewards systems must be flexible – match the reward to the person receiving it. Match the reward to the achievement. Rewards should be individual and specific whenever possible. Timing is everything! Make sure rewards are presented as soon as possible after the achievement. Everyone should show enthusiasm for a reward – it adds to its value. As important…a visible lack of enthusiasm will weaken a reward or program.

The Rewards & Recognition Program has three components: Coworker Supervisor to Staff Formal
Coworker Rewards and Recognition This component of the CCPL Rewards and Recognition Programs provides opportunities for every employee to be recognized and to show appreciation for one another. Coworker recognition is spontaneous, and can be implemented with minimal planning and effort. For example, receiving a personal note of congratulations for doing an excellent job can be highly motivating. All staff are encouraged to take advantage of this way to celebrate each other’s: Dedication Achievement Character Service “Can-do” attitude Respect Cooperation Helpfulness Flexibility
There are limitless opportunities to recognize our colleagues! The Rewards representative oversees this group of rewards at the branch level. This person keeps track of monies and inventory, levels of usage and over- or under usage as the fiscal year progresses, and offers help in fostering the enjoyment of this component.
To be most effective, each reward in this category should be presented in a timely manner, and should include a written note or oral statement of reasons for giving it.

Any supervisor at the branch or work site can be reward any staff member at that branch or work site and are not restricted to those that they supervise. In addition, individuals and groups not restricted to a particular work site (for example, a system wide team) are eligible for selection by management.
