					Trinity Church Ladies Committee Wedding Procedures
Trinity Church is a summer chapel of the Diocese of Maine of the Episcopal Church in North America. It is located at 546 York Street in York Harbor. The mail address is P. O. Box 323, York Harbor, Maine 03911. The telephone number is 1-207-363-5095. We do not have email. Weddings are welcome at Trinity from June 1 to September 15. They must be authorized by the Pastor, the Rev. R. Craig Burlington. His office number for the winter is 401-884-5759, and his summer number is 207-363-6740. He will be available for the required counseling or will recommend a priest in your area when necessary. The Ladies’ Committee Wedding Coordinator represents the Trustees of Trinity Church. They have established guidelines for the planning and execution of the rehearsal and ceremony. By direction of the Trustees, there will be no Sunday weddings and none on the third Saturday of August, when the York Firemen’s Parade and Field Day are held. It is established by the Canons of the Episcopal Church and in the Book of Common Prayer, page 422, that: “At least one of the parties must be a baptized Christian, that the ceremony be attended by at least two witnesses, and that the marriage conform to the laws of the State and the Canons of this Church.” The service must be an Episcopal service performed by an Episcopal priest licensed in the State of Maine. It is the policy of Trinity, furthermore, that those married here have affiliations with this community, already are worshippers here or have the intention to become a part of a worshipping community. This provides a context in which the marriage vows have integrity. The Church may be seen by appointment with the Wedding Coordinators, Mrs. Edward Little (Sue) at 207-363-7527 or Mrs. Jeffrey Koeze (Kate) at 207-363-4229 (summer only), or the Chairmen of the Ladies Committee, Mrs. William R. Baker, Jr. (Lou) at 508-651-3317 (or 207-363-5885 on weekends) and Mrs. Edward Burns (Windy) at 207439-1423. A wedding is a joyful time. Careful planning helps prevent lastminute stress and unnecessary problems. The following requests will help us all in making the service as happy an occasion as is possible. Please be PROMPT for both the rehearsal and the actual service. 1

Fees: Your contribution for the services of the clergyperson and organist, as well as the use of the Church is payable in advance. Your tax-deductible check for $1,500, payable to Trinity Church should be sent with your completed Registration Form to the Wedding Coordinator. In the case of an additional minister, such as a family friend, that gratuity is your responsibility. If you wish to have an additional musician/s, that is also your responsibility. If you are thinking of asking someone else to play the organ for your wedding, please observe the following excerpt from the Code of Ethics of the American Guild of Organists: “Rule 2. No member should accept a performing engagement in an institution unless such an engagement has been approved by the incumbent musician. “In such cases where such a performing engagement for a wedding, funeral or other service has been requested by a third party, it is appropriate for the third party to offer the incumbent the customary fee as a professional courtesy.” Music: Music should have been discussed with Mrs. Audrey Adams, the Organist, well in advance of the rehearsal. Mrs. Adams’ telephone number is 1-603-692-5269. If you plan to have extra musicians, please let us know if they might need chairs. If there is more than one music rehearsal, in the case of outside musicians, an additional fee of $65 an hour is due to the Organist. Any tardiness of more than 15 minutes may result in a late fee. No augmented or electronic music is allowed. Flowers: There are two styles of vases available for the Altar. No vases may be removed from the Church, so it is a good idea to have your florist come with you when planning flowers. You are expected to use two vases on the Altar. In addition, you may have baskets on the steps of the Chancel, in the window sills, or in the Vestibule. Flowers and bows may be used to mark family pews, but no tape or nails may be used. There may not be any ribbons in the flowers on the Altar, and the Ladies Committee reserves the right to rearrange any flowers not in conformity with standard practices. For instance, no flowers may be taller than the Arms of the Cross. If you wish, your flowers may be left on the Altar for the Sunday services. You are welcome, of course, to take them for your own enjoyment later. Please let us know in advance what your decision is so that we may make appropriate plans for the 2

Sunday services. Please arrange a time with the florist and us for the delivery of the flowers-as well as removal immediately following the service or at some other mutually convenient time to be arranged beforehand. Bells: If you wish to have the church bells rung at the end of the Service, you must inquire if one of our trained bell ringers is available. No one else is allowed to ring them. Photographs and Videotapes: Marriage is a sacrament. The solemnity and dignity of the occasion should not be marred by flashbulbs or a photographer trying to get into a better position for a picture. NO PHOTOGRAPHS OR VIDEOTAPES MAY BE TAKEN DURING THE SERVICE. One photographer may stand at the rear of the Church to photograph the procession in and out. After the Service, you may arrange for photographs in front of the Altar. There is a 30-minute time limit. PLEASE notify your photographer of these restrictions. Restrooms: There is no restroom for the wedding party. A restroom is available beside the Sacristy for before and after use. Parking: We will reserve a parking space on York Street for the bride’s car. Parking is available of both sides of York Street and Woodbridge Road. Rice and Confetti: No rice, confetti, rose petals or similar items are allowed in the Church or on the grounds. Runners: The church does not have a white runner. You may obtain one from your florist as a rule. You may decide that one is not needed. Wedding Planners: Please note that Trinity’s Wedding Coordinators are experienced in running the wedding rehearsal and service. Their instructions take precedence over that of an outside wedding planner. Please bear in mind that we want your marriage service to be has happy and carefree as possible! These guidelines are for your benefit, as well as all the Trinity Church volunteers who are assisting you. .
