You are invited to join OFA for the Florist Design Contest at this year’s OFA Short Course. The categories are: CATEGORY 1 – INDUSTRY CONNECTIONS Create an arrangement connecting the florist industry to another sector (i.e. greenhouse, garden center) of the floriculture industry using fresh cut flowers. This arrangement may include plant material and industryrelated hardgoods. CATEGORY 2 – CONNECTING PAST & PRESENT Include a photo of a past arrangement style (i.e. a dozen roses with baby’s breath) to display next to your present day interpretation of that design. CATEGORY 3 – GET CONNECTED Produce a bridal bouquet with fresh product. Decorative accessories are allowed (i.e. wire, fasteners, battery-operated lighting). Include an accompanying hair piece for the bridesmaid (this does not have to be attached). FLORIST DESIGN-OFF The five competitors with the top cumulative points from all three categories will be eligible for the Design-Off. This event will take place on the stage at 12:30 p.m. during the Sunday Florist OFA Short Course Program. The OFA Designer of the Year will receive $400 and will represent OFA at the National Alliance of Floral Associations’ competition. The top five category finalists will be announced at 12:15 p.m. and will participate in the Design-Off at 12:30 p.m. Participants must be ready with tools. BE PREPARED!! Coming Soon — The Academy Division This will allow those individuals who have consistently achieved high placements during the OFA Design Contest to continue competing at a higher level.

RULES & REGULATIONS Eligibility: You must be a paid registrant for the 2008 OFA Short Course Sunday general sessions. The contest is open to all individuals who are actively engaged in the floral industry. Past winners may participate to earn points for the new Academy Division. Contestants may enter any or all categories, but are encouraged to enter all categories to have a better chance to win OFA Designer of the Year. Each designer is limited to one design per category. Failure to follow rules and regulations will result in disqualification. Size: All designs must fit within 24” wide, 30” deep, and 36” tall. If any design exceeds these dimensions, it will be disqualified. Materials: No props are to be used (i.e. table covering, mirrors, backdrops). No accessories are to be used unless incorporated in the design. No price restrictions. Permanent botanicals are not permitted.

Registration: You must pre-register for the design contest by faxing this form to the OFA office by June 27. The contest is limited to the first 30 registrants. Entries must be checked in on Sunday, July 13, 7:30-8:30 a.m. Entries will only be accepted during these hours. Please stay in the registration area until your designs are qualified. Please note: • Designs must stay in place until 5:30 p.m. – NO EXCEPTIONS – or the designer gives up his or her right to participate in future years. • Design-off arrangements are the property of OFA. These will be showcased during the remainder of the OFA Short Course. Cash prizes will be awarded in each category. 1st place – $225 2nd place – $100 3rd place – $75 OFA Designer of the Year – $400 All registered attendees of the OFA Short Course will be eligible to vote for the People’s Choice award. Attendees can vote once for any design. The designer of the arrangement that is chosen for the People’s Choice category will receive a complimentary registration to the 2009 OFA Short Course Sunday General Sessions.
