CELEBRATING THE LIVES AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF 82 MILLION UNMARRIED AND SINGLE AMERICANS

Certification of Lafayette as Unmarried Majority City

As part of our commemoration of National Unmarried and Single Americans Week this year, the American Association for Single People presents the Mayor of the City of Lafayette with this certificate acknowledging that the United States Census 2000 has documented that 56.1% of the households in this municipality are headed by unmarried adults. We respectfully invite the Mayor and the City Council to join other cities throughout the nation in acknowledging the many contributions of their unmarried residents by issuing a proclamation declaring the week of September 15-21, 2002 as Unmarried and Single Americans Week in Lafayette. We further request that any proclamation which is issued be forwarded to us for inclusion in the National USA Week website which is sponsored by AASP. The American Association for Single People promotes the well being and fair treatment of 82 million unmarried Americans whether they live with a family member or partner, a roommate, or live alone. The promise of equality applies to all people – as workers, taxpayers, consumers, and citizens – whether married or not. AASP’s mission is fulfilled by conducting research and providing information and advice to members, elected officials, corporate policymakers, and the media.
