Fire Service Appeals for more Scrap Cars!
Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service would like to thank those people who have
generously donated their old cars for use in the British National Championships
extrication competition at the Madjeski Stadium, Reading in July. Since the first appeal
last week, the fire service has received over 70 car contributions. However, they still
need a further 70 cars to make up the total of 140 required for the competition.
Berkshire is hosting this year’s event that will see teams from all over the UK
demonstrating their skills at rescuing ‘casualties’ from wrecked cars to see who comes
out on top. Berkshire teams have a strong record at both national and international
level and are hoping to scoop some prizes in July.
Assistant Divisional Officer Ian Cox, a Berkshire team member and competition
organiser, explained: “The cars we need can be non- runners and have accident
damage, we can use anything really. We arrange with the owner to sign the vehicle
over to us and then we will collect it and take it away- it’s as simple as that.”
If you have a vehicle that is no use to you anymore and you are prepared to donate it
to the Brigade for use in the competition, please contact Michael Pound on 0118 932
