 WHAT IS STRESS


It's your body's reaction to
     the pressures — and
     challenges — of life.
There are 2 basic types
       of stress:

 POSITIVESTRESS
 NEGATIVE STRESS
There's no way to avoid
    negative stress
      completely.

And positive stress helps
  make life interesting!
WHY LEARN ABOUT STRESS?



Because too much stress —
 positive or negative — can
 make you unhappy or sick.
     Learning about stress will
     help you:
   FIGURE OUT what's causing stress in
    your life

   UNDERSTAND the effects of stress

   MANAGE stress and avoid the problems it
    can cause
           WHAT'S CAUSING
            YOUR STRESS
   PHYSICAL and EMOTIONAL CHANGES
   PEER PRESSURE
   CONCERN ABOUT GRADES
   FAMILY PROBLEMS
   CAREER DECISIONS
   FEAR OF VIOLENCE
   CHANGING GRADES OR SCHOOLS
   A BUSY SCHEDULE
  High levels of stress can
        affect your:

 BODY

 BEHAVIOR

 EMOTIONS

 THINKING
To stay happy and healthy, it’s
         important to:

• face your problems
• take responsibility
• talk to others
• find time for yourself
    Some tips for reducing Stress

   see problems for what they are
   be good to yourself
   think positively
   learn to manage your time wisely
   laugh
   don’t be afraid to fail
   prepare for stressful events
   keep a journal
     BECOME AH EXPERT IN
         RELAXATION
  Knowing how to relax is one of the most
   valuable skills a young person can have

These techniques can help:
• DEEP BREATHING
• MUSCLE RELAXING
• MEDITATION
    GOOD HEALTH IS AH
IMPORTANT DEFENSE AGAINST
         STRESS
• EAT HEALTHY FOODS
• GET PLENTY OF SLEEP
• EXERCISE REGULARLY
   GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK
      - - FROM STRESS!
• FIND
the sources of stress in your life
• KNOW
how stress can hurt you
• LEARN
- and practice -- ways to reduce stress
Relax — you can
