                                          PRACTICAL NURSING
The Practical Nursing program offers the opportunity for adult students to practice patient-centered nursing
care for all age groups. The program is registered by the New York State Education Department for 1,230
hours of combined academic and clinical instruction. The program prepares the student for admission to the
state licensing examination. Opportunities for immediate job placement in a variety of health care settings are
available. Programs are offered at the Olean and Belmont BOCES Centers as well as Bertrand Chaffee
Hospital in Springville. Pre-entrance examinations are given throughout the year. There is a $25 exam fee.
Admission requirements: High school diploma or equivalency diploma, pre-entrance test, pre-admission
interview with the Nursing Coordinator, physical examination showing the student to be in good health and
required immunizations. Call BOCES at 716-376-8268 or toll-free at 1-888-354-0553 for dates and locations.
                                           Financial aid is available.

“ I am a 49-year-old second year student in BOCES Practical Nursing. BOCES nursing program is helping
me to fulfill a life long desire to become a nurse. It’s a part time program which gives me the ability to still
work and fulfill my other responsibilities. It is a program designed to help you succeed if you are willing to
work hard. The instructors are there offering all the help we need even if extra instruction is needed.”

“ BOCES part-time LPN program has allowed myself, husband and our three children the flexibility to remain big parts

part time schooling instead of a full time program. I’m thankful to have found BOCES.”

“ I could not wait a second longer to tell you about my experience after leaving our last class for “ Your First Com-
puter” on October 2, 2004. I had decided earlier to go and apply for a Christmas season part-time
job since my afternoons and evenings are free. I stopped up to the service desk and asked for an application. The lady
said, “We do everything on the computer now.” I thought, “Oh, my gosh, I hope I can do this!” Well, you would not
believe but everything you taught us came rushing into my head and I was able to fill in all the blanks and answer
about 40 questions, all by myself because the lady took me into the staff lounge and left me there. I thank God for
 people like you!”
