Eastern Stars Band Newsletter
This will be a very busy term for us all, with a lot of playing engagements (see later). Keep up with your
practising every week.
Unfortunately there are quite a few people with outstanding fees. Fees for the last term are due in now. Any
back fees must be paid by the end of October. Please give this your urgent attention.

Fundraiser Concert, 18 September 2010
We have had lots of positive feedback about the concert. It was a
very successful night. We made $1500 for the band and some of
this money will be spent on new Christmas music for our play-outs
and our next concert.
For those wanting a DVD of the concert, these are available
from Anne Wang at a cost of $5. Just bring the $5 to band and
Marie will pass it on to her.
Congratulations to Frances Save for selling the most concert tickets.
He has won a double movie pass.

Garage Sale – We are holding a garage sale on Saturday 30 October at Crystal Leng’s house at 69 McLeans
Road, Bucklands Beach – ph 535 9398, mobile 021 658 499. If you have goods to donate, please get in touch
with Crystal – ring first before dropping off goods. Items needed include clothing, household furniture, kitchen
goods, books, gardening tools, toys or anything that is saleable.

We will need some helpers for the day before the Garage Sale to help sort out items and price them, and
also helpers on the Saturday. If you are able to help, contact Crystal.
Chocolate sales – It was decided at our last committee meeting that we would sell chocolate bars again. Last
time we made close to $2000 for the band which went mainly towards our camp at Rotorua. We are hoping
next year to have a trip for band members; whether this is another camp or a trip away will be decided in the
New Year. Please give this fundraiser your support. All band members will be expected to sell at least one box
of chocolates which were handed out at our first band practice night. The member selling the most boxes of
chocolates will win a double movie pass.
We wish to acknowledge and thank the following for grants received this month:
Pakuranga Community Board – $450 Howick Community Board – $450 Botany Community Board – $450
All of these will go towards the purchase of a euphonium
Creative NZ – $4000 – will go towards the purchase of music
Sell your home through Barfoot & Thompson and raise money for
Just a reminder that James Gao (father of Jimmy) of Barfoot & Thompson, Howick, will donate $500 to the
Eastern Stars Band when he sells a home that is referred to him by a band member! James can be contacted by
phone at 537 6418 (H) or 021 244 1000 (mobile) or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org — make sure you
mention you’re a member of the Eastern Stars Band.
James’ first $500 donation to the band was gratefully received at our last concert and has been used to
purchase some much-needed sound equipment. This will be put to good use at future concerts.

(wear a white t-shirt underneath if cold) and the red band vest. Bring your music and music stand, and unless
told otherwise, assembly time will be 30 minutes prior to playout. Do not be late!
