4K EEPROM SECURE SMART CARD IC
Atmel announces the introduction of its AT90SC6404R secureAVR microcontroller. The AT90SC6404R, having 64K ROM, 4K EEPROM and 2K RAM has been developed and fully certified for banking applications to meet the growing demand for EMV 2000 products, as banks migrate to chip card solutions to satisfy the liability shift requirements announced by Visa and MasterCard. The AT90SC6404R has been granted MasterCard CAST and Visa Level 3 security approvals. In addition the product has been certified to Common Criteria EAL4 Augmented level (EAL4+), with vulnerability assessment AVA_VLA.4, which corresponds to today’s highest proven resistance against any security attack. The product has also been assessed as part of MasterCard’s new Card Quality Management (CQM) program and has obtained its CQM approval and label, together with other Atmel smart card ICs. Typical volume pricing is $0.85 for 100K units, supplied as die on sawn wafer.
With the UV add-on module, UV features on cards that are often added for security purposes to credit cards among other applications, can be inspected in a single pass. The machine’s self-learning system trains on a set of “good” cards, and will sort and identify any defective cards with UV features that are smudged, scratched or otherwise varying from the desired image. Card manufacturers can now use the 930 to simultaneously inspect features in the full UV-visible spectrum. The bar code/OCR add-on to the Spartanics 930 Card Inspection System allows card manufacturers to track and ensure the integrity of either 1D or 2D bar codes and all optical characters (OCR, optical character recognition). Recently, Spartanics announced that its Spartanics 930 Card Inspection System will be used by Digimarc Corporation as part of a four-year contract that Digimarc recently secured to supply Mexico with millions of voter ID cards.
