The entertainment reaches a peak as darkness falls, with dramatic fire juggling from the Gandinis setting the scene for the moment when the real countdown begins. As the smoke clears and the last strains of music fade away, it’s time to take a short stroll across to the Parish Church where there’s a warm welcome waiting for all at the Community Carol Service. Start as you mean to go on for the festive season and join in the fun of our family-friendly Switch-On Sunday. It’s going to be a cracker of a Christmas in Newark!

Don’t forget our monthly FARMERS’ MARKET on Friday 5 December; the RETAIL & AUCTION MARKET on Riverside Arena on Wednesday 17, Wednesday 24 and Wednesday 31 December; and the special CHRISTMAS CHARITY MARKET from 12 noon to 5pm on Sunday 7 December - all the fun of the fair and a chance to support lots of local good causes too.

A Giant Of A Pantomime

Jeffrey Holland (Hi Di Hi) as Dame Trott, Tony Scannell (The Bill) as Fleshcreep, singing sensation Chris Park as Jack, Judy Buxton (On The Up) as Fairy Organic and new star comedian Ian Jones as Simple Simon, head the cast in this year’s giant of a panto, Jack and the Beanstalk, at Newark Palace Theatre.

Directed by Mark Piper and produced by Paul Holman Associates, it tells the popular tale of our hero Jack, tricked into selling his much-loved cow Daisy for a bag of beans. Like all the best pantos, it’s packed with mayhem and merriment and in true fairytale tradition, good finally overcomes evil and everybody lives happily ever after...

Jack and the Beanstalk opens at the Palace on Wednesday 10 December, with performances every day (except 15, 22 and 25 December and 1 January) until Sunday 4 January. Ticket prices start at £9.50 but they’re already selling fast. So don’t leave it too late to book your seats for a gi-normous helping of family fun!
