Gospel story for this week: Luke 5:1-11

 Jesus Calls His First Disciples
One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people
were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw
at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were
washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to
Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat
down and taught the people from the boat.
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep
water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t
caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

Gospel story for this week: Luke 5:1-11

 Jesus Calls His First Disciples
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that
their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other
boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so
full that they began to sink.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go
away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” For he and all his
companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and
so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.
Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will
fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left
 everything and followed him.

            Be Respectful
               Reflection
All Years

This week sees the start of Lent on Ash
Wednesday. Lent is a time when we are
asked to take time to PRAY, to FAST and
             to give to CHARITY.
But Jesus tells us on Ash Wednesday not to
do this as a hypocrite, loudly and showing
off, but quietly and without anyone seeing.
                    Reflection
All Years
       Beckham recently
   announced that he will be
     giving all his wages to
            charity.
Some people argue that this is a great thing because he
does not need the money and charities do. Others argue
that this is all a tax dodge as it means he will not have
to pay a huge amount in taxes and still makes millions
from all his other endorsements and activities. Equally,
others argue that Balotelli has been doing this for
years, but quietly and without telling anyone.
                  Reflection
All Years

   Do you think Beckham is
   doing what Jesus asked us
            to do?

Discuss with your partner for 1 minute – is
Beckham following the words of Jesus or is
he being a hypocrite? Can any act be
           purely selfless and good?

                           Year 7 Rugby
Congratulations to the Year 7 Rugby players on their performance
last week. After doing a Wales and giving their opposition a 21 -0
halftime lead, the boys fought back and narrowly missed out on
winning the game. With constant pressure they crossed the tryline
on 3 occasions and were held up over the line on 2 other occasions.
At the final whistle the score stood 21-19 to SJB, who to their credit
defended heroically against the St. Peter’s onslaught.

                        GCSE Citizenship Coursework Day

On Wednesday, you have a very exciting day during which the Year 9s will be
presenting their Coursework to you. You will not have normal lessons during
Periods 1-3 so you do not need to bring books in for these lessons. During the day,
your form will be split into two teams: A and B. You will then be going to
different activities, videos and displays in these teams so you need to be on your
                                    best behaviour!

On Wednesday, you can wear your House Shirt for the day so we can easily
identity what house you are in.

Listen carefully to what you are being taught, enjoy it and have fun!

            Is your mind
             part of your

                      Deep Breaths…..

You need to make sure you take time to relax properly,
especially before and after revision sessions and before and
after exams. If you have relaxed properly, scientific
research shows that you are better able to retain what you
are about to/just have revised. Equally, you perform much
better than those who go into exams really stressed.

                        Deep Breaths

One of the key ways to relax is through simply learning
how to breathe correctly. Effective breathing involves
taking breaths in through the nose and out through the
mouth in smooth, slow and regular cycles. It is also
recommended that you breath in twelve cycles per minute.
You need to sit comfortably with your hands placed gently
on your legs and sitting up straight to allow your lungs to
take in a good amount of air. This is a technique that you
can practice at home before and after you revise and you
can utilise it if you feel shaky preceding your exams.

Years 9-11
                     Deep Breaths: Your task

For the next minute, practice breathing deeply in and then
out. Feel the tension going out of your body and physically
                       and mentally relax.

After one minute of good relaxation, you will be able to face a day of
hard work and still retain all the knowledge and understanding you
                         are just about to obtain!

Take time daily to do this before and after every revision slot – it has
been scientifically proven to work, so why not give it a go!
