It was 1834 when Dublin started as a community. It was known as Amador's Ranch because
Jose Marie Amador built his ranch and outbuildings on the corner of Dublin Blvd. and San
Ramon Road next to the Alamilla Springs. It was a community of about 100 people, mainly
Indian, that worked in the factory manufacturing soap, blankets, shoes, and leather goods for
ranch use and for trade. The ranch was an 18,000 acre land grant given to Jose Marie Amador
for his years of service as a soldier and Administrator of Mission San Jose. The land raised
cattle, sheep, and food for the residents.

The ranch was very prosperous until gold was discovered in 1849. Ranch workers left for the
gold fields and the ranch was neglected. In 1852 Amador began selling his land to Americans
who wanted to farm. Michael Murray and Jeremiah Fallon, by way of New York, New Orleans
and Mission San Jose, purchased 1,000 acres of what is now Dublin and Stoneridge, built
homes and started farming. In 1853 Alameda County was created out of parts of Contra Costa
and Santa Clara Counties and Dublin became part of Alameda County.

James Whitt Dougherty came to Dublin from Tennessee after several years in Sacramento
operating a store. Mr. Dougherty and a partner purchased 10,000 acres from Amador and
began to develop Dublin into a small farm community. By 1876 Dougherty was the second
largest landholder in Alameda County and was a member of the county Board of Supervisors.
In 1856 the Murray School District was formed and Murray School was built. The school
replaced a small subscription school and now serves as a museum on the Heritage Center
grounds, 6600 Donlon Way. St. Raymond's Catholic Church was built in 1859 and served the
community until 1941. The church is now part of the Heritage Center.

John Green came to Dublin from New York by way of Oakland. Mr. Green purchased
Michael Murray's farm, built a mercantile store and hotel n the corner of Donlon Way and
Dublin Blvd. and became Dublin's first and leading businessman. By 1870 Dublin had two
hotels, a store, a wagon and blacksmith shop, a shoemaker, a school, a church, a Sunday
school and was the crossroads for Bay Area travelers. By 1878 the community known as
Dublin, Amador's Dougherty Station, or Dougherty, was officially named Dublin.

Dublin's location at the intersection of two major stagecoach routes and later two major
freeways has sustained and at times, spurred its growth as a residential and business
community from early days. In the 1960's, the San Ramon Village development brought
Dublin into the modern era. The '70's and '80's saw continued growth and many new
businesses and new housing. On November 3, 1981, Dublin voters approved a measure to
incorporate Dublin as Alameda County's 14th city. Dublin is now governed by a five member
council which includes an elected mayor.

Shadow Cliffs
Is haven for swimming and fishing can be found at Shadow Cliffs, only a mile from downtown
Pleasanton on Stanley Boulevard. The Park District has developed a 296-acre park including
an 80-acre lake and a four-flume waterslide, with ample parking and picnic grounds. There are
facilities for the disabled

Pleasanton Ridge
One of the District's most recent land acquisitions, this beautiful 3,163-acre parkland is on the
oak-covered ridge overlooking Pleasanton and the Livermore Valley from the west. It is
planned as the core of a Ridgelands Regional Park to be acquired over a period of many years.
Parkland development has been intentionally limited to preserve the pastoral atmosphere.

Del Valle
Deep in a valley framed by oak-covered hills, with sailboats and sailboards skimming over its
waters, Del Valle is like an alpine resort only 10 miles south of Livermore.
Centerpiece of the park is a lake five miles long with all kinds of water-oriented recreation,
surrounded by 3,997 acres of beautiful land for hiking, horseback riding, and nature study.
Del Valle also is the eastern gateway to the Ohlone Wilderness Trail, 28 miles of scenic back
country trail.

Alameda County Fairgrounds
Besides hosting the county fair every summer, the Alameda County Fairgrounds hosts events
all year long. The Alameda County Fairgrounds is located at 4501 Pleasanton Avenue,
Pleasanton, California, approximately 4 miles south of the intersection of Interstates 580 and
680.
