YEAR 4 RESIDENTIAL VISIT TO BRAEDSIDE – 5th – 7th June 2013

Dear Parents / Carers

Following our successful trip this year we have arranged a Year 4 Residential visit to Braeside
next June.

Date of the trip: 5th – 7th June 2013
Venue: Devizes, Wiltshire
Cost: £130

Braeside Education Centre is set in the heart of Devizes, in rural Wiltshire. The children will
have the opportunity to take part in various educational and outdoor activities which will be
planned specifically to meet the needs of the group. These may include canoeing, team building
activities, canal studies and learning how to navigate using a map and compass.

The centre has a children’s lounge, showers, cloak rooms and separate sleeping for boys and
girls. The children will sleep in dormitories of no more than 8 children to a room. In each
sleeping area, there is a separate room for teachers to sleep. The children will be given three
meals each day; breakfast, packed lunch and a two course evening meal. Further information
about the centre can be found on the Braeside website at www.braesideeducation.co.uk

If you would like your child to take part in the residential trip, the return slip and a non-
refundable deposit of £25.00 needs to be paid at the office no later than Thursday 20th
December 2012. You will then be given a payment card as receipt and record of monies
paid.

The full balance of monies needs to be paid to school by Friday 24th May 2013. This can
be done in instalments; please return your card with each payment to the office and we
will update the card and return it to you. Cheque payments are preferred with all cheques
made payable to Spurcroft Primary School.

The cost of £130 consists of three elements:
There is a charge of £105 per child which is the charge for the residential element from
Braeside Activity Centre; £6 per child for a canal boat trip and admission to the museum at
Avebury Stone Circle; and a contribution of £16 towards the cost of transport. There is also a
contingency of £3 per child as these costs are based on 2012 costs and we have been advised
that there may be a small price increase in 2013. The transport cost is an estimated cost as it
depends on the actual cost of the coach which can only be confirmed when we know the actual
number of children who go on the residential trip. The school will recalculate this cost once the
actual costs and the numbers of children attending the trip are confirmed and make a
reimbursement or seek additional contributions if required. This will be no later than the end of
December 2012.

The school realises that residential trips are a significant cost to parents but believes strongly
in the benefit of the outdoor education and believes that this trip will contribute to the
independence the children need as they move into their final years at primary school. For any
parents / carers who are eligible to receive any of the following benefits the school can help so
please come into school to talk with the Headteacher, where the school already has this
information then the School Business Manager will contact you direct.

      Income Support (IS);
      Income Based Jobseekers Allowance (IBJSA);
      support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999;
    Child Tax Credit, provided that Working Tax Credit is not also received and the family’s
       income (as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) does not exceed the limit as
       defined by the IR (£16,190) for Financial Year 2010/11);
    the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit; and
    an income-related employment and support allowance (this benefit was introduced 27 Oct
       2008).

Please complete the attached slip and return to your child’s teacher as soon as possible.

If you have any questions with regards to any of the information in this letter, please feel free
to come and speak to me at any time.

Yours faithfully,

Miss Caroline Fielding
