Read Exercise 19 on pages 89-90. Locate the volumes containing the United States Code section(s) listed with your problem number in both West’s United States Code Annotated and LEXIS Law Publishing’ United States Code Service. (The section may appear in a supplement.) Then answer the following questions; if only one source is available, indicate which source and answer the questions to the extent possible. a. What is the copyright date of the volume of West’s United States Code Annotated in which the section(s) appear(s)? 2000 b. What is the copyright date of the volume of LEXIS Law Publishing’ United States Code Service in which the section(s) appear(s)? 1996 c. Briefly summarize the subject matter covered by the Code section(s). It goes over the guidelines for becoming an importer, manufacturer or dealer of firearms or ammunition. d. West’s United States Code Annotated and LEXIS Law Publishing’ United States Code Service both have annotations and editorial features accompanying the Code section(s). In what respect are those features the same for the section? How are they different? USCA provides a section called American Law Reports, and Westlaw Electronic Research. USCS has agency directives. e. How are the volumes that you examining supplemented and updated? Is the supplemental material, if any, by the two publishers the same? If not, how is it different? USCA has a 2003 supplement USCS also has a 2003 supplement 2. Retrieve the section(s) above on Westlaw. a. Through what date (or other relevant indicator) is the retrieved material current? Current through P.L.108-80, approved 9-17-03 b. How does the online material different from the print version of West’s United States Code Annotated? Which did you find easier to use? Why? They look very similar to me, the online version has some links for items repealed and it seems to be updated with the supplemental material. I find them both pretty easy to use. 3. Retrieve the section(s) above on LEXIS. a. What is the most current date for the retrieved material? 9/4/03 b. How does the online material different from the print version of LEXIS Law Publishing’ United States Code Service? Which did you find easier to use? Why? Similar to use, online was a bit faster and easier. Online has links to other sections of the code. 4. Read Exercise 22 on pages 93-95. Choosing one of the jurisdiction for your problem number. Using Westlaw, LEXIS, or the appropriate hardbound code, find the applicable statute of limitations. a. Which jurisdiction did you choose? Georgia b. What sources did you consult? (Include complete title & copyright date) Westlaw and Lexis Nexis, and Official Code of GA Annotated c. Describe the words and terms that you consulted in the index and any other methods or steps that you used to try to find the relevant statutory provision(s). I tried, “conversion, tort, statute of limitations, taking or detaining personal property.” d. Based on what you found after a reasonable amount of searching, state what you think is the statutory period for the jurisdiction selected. What statutory provision(s) supports your conclusion? Based on Ga. Code Ann., § 9-3-6, The statute of limitations applies to the subject matter of setoff as well as to the plaintiff's demand. Based on Ga. Code Ann., § 9-3-32, it is 4 years for conversion
