Sermon: “Seeing with God-Given Eyes: Illumination”……………….Dr. J. Ben Sloan

                          Scripture Lesson: John 14:17, 26, 16:15; Ephesians 1:17-19

I am still basking in what God is doing and has done in our midst. Last Sunday was so special with
Alden Shealy’s baptism- what a hopeful moment that was for all of us! After church four came forward to join
us as part of our church family. Three had been coming every Sunday for quite some time (Jack & Sandy
Martin and Susan Johnson). But one was a senior at Dutch Fork High, Amanda Sabin. Amanda had been going
to a non-denominational church but it wasn’t a good fit for her. Her parents don’t attend church, so Amanda
was on her own. She visited several churches, and looked at many on the web. She found our web site and
decided to visit. When she visited she felt this was home for her and came forward after church to join! I have
visited several of the 40 Days groups and have found that there is a wonderful spirit spreading around. Many
who have never been in a small group or Bible study are willing to give it a 40-day shot and found it is like a
shot in the arm- a boost in their life. Several visitors have plugged in as well- you don’t have to be a member
to join us in Bible study. Other exciting things are happening too. We have met with an architect about a new
master long-range plan for our facilities, including the new Children’s Ministry Building and where our offices
might find a more permanent home (more on this at the Stewardship Dinner 11/4). The Associate Pastor
Nominating Committee has met three times and is hard at work. The Deacons and Helping Hands continue to
visit, call, provide meals for those in need, and are holding a Service for Healing and Wholeness this
Wednesday, 10/17 (5:30 PM). This will be a celebration for answered prayer (like for Kathryn Ann Mullis),
but also a time of deep prayer for those with special needs (like Sue Madden and Doug Hancock, and others that
you would want to lift up to God). Lifting up people to be blessed and giving thanks for God’s blessings is so
important. I believe we are in a time of blessing, and it is exciting to see God at work around us. My prayer is
that your eyes will be open to see His hand in your life as well as in the life of this church.

Forty Days in the Word has begun! And it’s not too late to take part! Over 5,000 churches of all sizes and

I hope you all plan to join us Sunday after church for LMPC FAMILY FAIR DAY! This is a day to join other
church members and youth in a joint fun adventure. Let’s make this a church-wide fair trip! Plan on heading to
the fair after worship and meet your friends at the rocket! We will just have a super fun day at the fair with our
church friends! There will be no regular youth meetings Sunday because we will be at the fair! I know the Sr
Highs aren't too keen on spending the day with their families at the fair, so here is the plan for the SR HIGHS.
We will meet in the parking lot close to the gym after church and group together to go to the fair! We will take a
few cars and head on to the fair and hang out together! THE SR HIGHS WILL RIDE TO THE FAIR
TOGETHER! It is going to be SO much fun so please plan on coming!
