Class One
Aim: Know the meaning of Chinese New Year and vocabulary related to it as Red envelope, , rice cake, firecrackers, and reunion dinner. Teaching material: flash cards and red chalk 1. Warm up (5min) (1)Check the previous assignment “ Wishing card “ for Christmas and remind the students to post the card on the Christmas tree. (2)Brain storming: anything that is associated to Chinese New Year.( food / color / tradition etc.) 2. Development (1) Vocabulary (10min) red envelope, rice cake, firecrackers, reunion dinner, lucky money, New Year’s Eve a. .Listen and repeat the new words. (review Phonics) b. Spell and copy the new words. (2) Role playing (10min) Have students play the aliens from Mars visiting friends in Taiwan and greeting by saying Happy Chinese New Year (3) Worksheet time (5min) Match the vocabularies with the correct pictures.
Class Two
Aim: Know the meaning of the sentence” What do you do during the Chinese New Year?” and be able to reply “Let us show you.”
Teaching Material: flash cards and text poster 1. Warm up (10min) (1) Review the new words taught in Class One/ use guessing game. (2) Let’s have a big reunion dinner.: a. Design your own menu b. What do you have at home? Fish / Apple / Orange / Rice cake ? c. Why? Express your opinion 2. Development (20min) (1) Sentence pattern

Development (1) Activities we do during the Chinese New Year (text) Parents give their children red envelopes. People take a trip. People light firecrackers. The family have a reunion dinner together. (2) Practice and practice. 3. Writing Write a “Wishing Crad” for the Year of Pig.
