					Alternative Gift Ideas
Westminster Friends: Do you know people who just don’t need anything for Christmas? Still, you value them and want to honor them in some way during the Christmas season. The church office would like to pass on detailed information about how you can honor your friends and loved ones this year and assist your community at the same time. Please consider these or other alternative gift giving ideas . . . Consider “buying a plant” in your loved one’s honor or memory. Make a deductible contribution to the Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund and designate your gift for “landscaping.” Honorees or families will receive a special note announcing your gift and expressing thanks. tax Did you know a gift of $5 will buy 5 lbs. of nails? Ten dollars will buy a hammer. A gift of $25 will buy a light fixture. Through the PaducahMcCracken County Habitat for Humanity you can honor those on your gift list by buying, in their name, materials needed to build a home for an area family. Your loved one will receive a holiday gift card telling them about your generosity - and you will receive a receipt for your tax deductible donation. Everybody wins! Habitat for Humanity’s local address is P.O. Box 1693, Paducah, KY 42002-1693. St. Nicholas Family Clinic is a non-profit organization that provides health care services and medications to low income working families. Contributions are hard to come by in this economy so, taking matters in their own hands, the staff of St. Nicholas will make use of property they have access to at 1905 Kentucky Avenue to open St. Nick’s Once More & Again Thrift Store. One hundred percent of the store’s sales will go directly to the clinic to provide free health care to low income families. In order to help stock the store, Ms. Ryan invites our gifts of cash and donations of clothing, household items, small furniture items and toys in good selling condition. Call Lucy Ryan at (270) 210-0616 for more information. Paducah Cooperative Ministry – As a charter member church of PCM, Westminster has long had a close relationship with this organization. Our Fifth Sunday collections have come to an end for this year but the need goes on. Gifts made to PCM in the name of your loved one will be acknowledged joyfully. Donations may be sent to 402 Legion Drive, Paducah, KY 42003. Mayfield-Graves County Animal Shelter – If your loved one has a special place in their heart for members of the animal kingdom, this group could really use your gift this year. All animal shelters struggle but the Mayfield group was hit particularly hard when more than 50 pit bulls were discovered in their county, kept in deplorable condition, many sick and horribly scarred from what appeared to be organized dog fighting. Despite their lack of money, space and employees, the shelter’s staff saved all the animals they could (many of whom they still have) and humanely and sadly destroyed those that were beyond helping. Your gift may be sent to 500 North 12th Street, Mayfield KY 42066 and will be acknowledged by the shelter’s grateful staff.
