Bright Futures Scholarship Winners: What Are They Up To Now?

Bright Futures SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Each year, Kimberly-Clark likes to feature updates on some of the 1,500 past awardees of Bright Futures Scholarships. Let’s see what the following college students are up to today:

Hannah Ann Thiel Hilbert, WI
K-C parent: Gary R. Thiel Neenah Cold Spring Facility College Attending: University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh Year: Sophomore Majors: Psychology, Spanish and Pre-Med Honors/Recognitions: Accepted to join two academic scholar programs Extracurricular Activities: • Intramural volleyball • Psychology research studies • Spanish Club Special Interests: “I like to do art projects, such as painting, and I like to work with children.” Plans upon graduation from college: “After my five years at UW Oshkosh, I am hoping to be accepted into medical school. I have not decided for sure where I would like to go, but am looking into Cornell and Johns Hopkins. I would like to be a rheumatologist or a psychiatrist. I hope to move back to Wisconsin after medical school and land a job at a hospital. In the way future, I would like to have my own clinic.” Something else I’d like people to know about me: “I am very goal oriented and work my hardest to get the things I want. School is very important to me because it gives me the chance to learn new things, explore new topics, pique new interests, and become something in this world. I like to work with people, which is why I would like to become a doctor. It allows me to work with people and to help them at the same time. I would love to travel sometime in life as well. Overall I am very outgoing. I like to spend time with my family and friends and do the things I love most.”

Justin Krueger Appleton, WI

Sharing stories and seeing the world through others’ experiences is what makes life. I also enjoy sharing my gift of music with others. Music has the ability to express what words cannot. Music to me is the language of the soul.” Plans upon graduation from college: “Looking to attend graduate school in pursuit of a Doctorate in Music, hoping to teach at the collegiate level.” Something else I’d like people to know about me: “I have recently performed on the piano with the St. Norbert Wind ensemble, had a personal composition debuted at the St. Norbert College Presidential inauguration Mass as the Communion Processional, and when I am not doing music or academics, you can find me enjoying a good Packer game on Sunday afternoon.”

I don’t have a preference of what grade I want to teach; I just want to teach children and help them gain a good education. I also plan to get married and raise an amazing family someday.” Something else I’d like people to know about me: “I am a very hard working individual. Although I often procrastinate, I never leave things undone. I set my goals high and accept nothing less. I understand how blessed I am to have received scholarships such as this one to fund my education, and I am thankful every day.”

Kasey Elayne Nichols Paris, Texas

Austin State University Year: Junior Major: Speech Language Pathology Honors/Recognitions: • Dean’s Award Recipient (2006, 2007, 2008) • Outstanding Service Award (Panhellenic Association) Extracurricular Activities: • Chi Omega Sorority • Dreambuilders • National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association • Young Conservatives of Texas • Junior Panhellenic Officer • Chi Omega Executive Officer Plans upon graduation from college: “I will graduate with my undergraduate degree in December 2009. From there I will attend graduate school where I will work towards my Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology.” Something else I’d like people to know about me: “I’m very grateful to receive the Bright Futures Scholarship. I have learned so much in my two-and-a-half years of college, and it would not be possible without my mom and dad!”

I plan to do this with my older brother, who is majoring in Exercise Science. Something else I’d like people to know about me: “I work hard and enjoy life!” Note: Brianne Rainey, a 2009 Bright Futures Scholarship recipient, just became the third member of the Rainey family to be a Bright Futures Scholar.
