Web Tester Intern – The Student Room, Brighton

world’s largest student websites. From our converted grain store in the vibrant North Laine area of
Brighton, we are seeking experienced and passionate PHP developers of all shapes, sizes and levels
of ability as we continue to grow our in-house team.
Acumen PI is a small, passionate company with 30 employees and an annual turnover of £2 Million.
Founded in 2001, we have steadily and profitably grown our two main sites which now receive around
4.5 million unique visitors per month: www.thestudentroom.co.uk and www.coursework.info
The Student Room is well established as the largest student community in the world. Students aged
14-24 use the site for academic and emotional support from their peers, fun and making friends.
Coursework.Info is the UK’s largest academic coursework library endorsed is endorsed by teachers
and the academic community at large
We are looking for versatility. People who enjoy learning new things and who will thrive on the
challenges of working on 1solutions that will be used by millions of people. We operate an Agile
development environment and working as part of the team will involve:
Working with the developers, designers and project sponsor to understand new requirements and
Writing test plans
Documenting issues and helping the team locate and resolve them
• Highly organised
• Diligent and have great attention to detail
• Technically comfortable and very online savvy
• Good at juggling lots of tasks
• Able to deal with tight timelines and working under pressure
Previous experience of web testing would be advantageous, but not essential.
As would any knowledge of testing tools.
Some technical knowledge/experience would also be helpful, perhaps a grounding in
An understanding of the development lifecycle, and in particular how software testing fits in
Most important though is to have an inquisitive mind and great attention to detail. Being keen to
understand how things work, how to break them and how to fix them!
It is likely the position will run for 2 months, with the possibility of extension after this. The successful
applicant should be expected to start immediately.
The rate of pay will depend upon the candidate and their experience, but typically £8 per hour, based
on a regular working week
