CUSTOMS RULES & REGULATIONS
GENERAL INFORMATION All incoming shipments will be physically inspected by custom authorities, owner must attend customs inspection in person and also authorize Freight Systems Co. Ltd. (WLL) in writing to process paperwork. Any prohibited items will be confiscated with inclusive of fines/penalties. All diplomatic shipments must be clearly marked “DIPLOMATIC EFFECTS” especially on all documents / boxes. Diplomatic shipments are not dutiable if exemption is obtained by the Embassy from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Voltage in Kuwait is 220V/50 cycle.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION Original AWB/Bill of lading. Original inventory/packing list. Insurance certificate Copy of passport/Residence permit. A pre-alert should be sent to us a week in advance of arrival of the shipment. This would enable us to provide the client with a personal service, as well as allowing us to prepare for the shipments arrival. Motor vehicles should be accompanied by Registration Certificate, Insurance Policy and Manufacturers Invoice. All “Diplomatic Shipments” must be clearly marked on all documents so that duty exemption can be obtained from Ministry of Foreign Affairs Authorization letter to clear shipments. This we will obtain from the shipper upon arrival in Kuwait. Shipping instruction with full contact details of shipper in Kuwait along with your billing instructions.
IMPORT REGULATION / CUSTOMS CLEARANCE Consignee’s presence is required for customs clearance. Original passport is required when consignee is present for clearance. Personal effects are subject to open inspection by customs authorities. Customs duty is at present 4% of the value estimated by customs on all household goods and motorcars. Normal customs clearance takes atleast a week from vessel arrival.
Books, literature, audio/video cassettes, records, CD’s etc. are all detained by customs for screening and will be released to consignee only after approval by the Ministry of information. Prohibited articles detained by customs may be destroyed without consignee’s consent
PROHIBITED ARTICLES All pornographic literature, videos, films and pictures (including simple nudity of all kinds). Alcoholic beverages (Including fine wines). Medicines and medical drugs (allowed in reasonable quantities, but subject to analysis) All narcotics and drugs. Importation of any narcotics (including seemingly innocent dried poppy flower arrangements) can lead to very severe legal action and even long prison terms. Wireless transmitters/ receivers. Firearms ammunition, explosives and any weapons (including decorative items such as swords and daggers). Products of Israeli origin/manufacture or any items on Israeli blacklist. Political and religious literature which might be deemed as offensive to the Kuwait government or the Islamic faith. Any items made out of ivory

MOTOR VEHICLE : Import of vehicle is permitted provided the model of the automobile is under four (4) years old from the current years model. Moreover, a valid residence permit of Kuwait in the name of the individual is a must or else it should be imported in the name of his company who should have an import permit. If the vehicle is imported in the name of his company the registration can at a later date be transferred in the name of the individual once he obtains permanent residency. Customs duty of 4% of its value assessed by customs in Kuwait will be applicable. Shipper must also provide customs, an invoice, registration certificate if any, insurance policy and other documents of help. (Incase vehicle is over four years old special permission from the Ministry is required prior to shipment). Finally, the Ocean Bill of Lading must indicate year of manufacture, year of model, name of the vehicle, Engine No. Chassis No. and colour.
