Riverside Rang in the New Year at First Night Buffalo
Riverside FCU was proud to be a sponsor of the 2008 First Night Buffalo Celebration. The 20th Anniversary Celebration of First Night Buffalo was a huge success. The drug- and alcohol-free event is great way for families to ring in the new year in a fun and safe environment. Riverside was there with a game and prizes for the kids and membership information for the adults. We had a very popular table among all of the fantastic shows and activities within the Buffalo Convention Center. Riverside FCU was pleased to end 2008 at such a great community event.

News and information from your credit union
Spring 2009

Count on Riverside to Hold Your VISA® Credit Card Rate Steady
If you have credit cards from other financial institutions, you may have received a notice that your rate is increasing. That’s a notice you won’t be getting from Riverside. We believe that increasing interest rates on credit card balances just makes tough economic times more difficult for those who are trying to pay down their debt. And we won’t reduce credit limits either. Did you know that you could save big by transferring high-rate balances to your Riverside VISA® Credit Card account? Our low balance transfer rates are a fraction of the 18%, 21% and higher rates that other credit cards are charging. So your interest savings will add up quickly. As always, our goal as your credit union is to help you make the most of your money in every way we possibly can. To view our current credit card rates, apply for a card or credit line increase, or to transfer balances from higher-interest cards to your Riverside credit card, call us at 716-875-1747 or 1-800-491-0256.

We’re Going Green Lock in a Great Rate with a Fixed-rate Home Equity Loan
There always seems As low as to be a major expense coming just around the APR* corner. A new addition and no closing co sts!* to the house. Tuition payments. Car repairs. Vacation expenses. No matter what you use the money for, a great way to finance it is through a fixed-rate home equity loan from Riverside FCU.

In an effort to be an environmentally-friendly credit union, the Riverside FCU newsletter will be going green. This will be the last printed newsletter that we send out. All future newsletters will be available online in a readable, printable format. Riverside will also print a limited quantity that will be available at both of our locations for anyone who would like a copy.

It’s a win-win for members, and the planet we live on
Riverside is proud to do our best to minimize waste and decrease our “carbon footprint.” We believe that it is our responsibility to do whatever we can to nurture our community for generations to come. Not only will going green help our planet, but it will help our members as well. By reducing the cost of our newsletter, we can return the revenue to our members in better rates and services. The well-being of our members inside and out of the credit union is important to us, and we look forward to doing our part.

Riverside FCU Presents Race With Riverside
Riverside FCU has just begun a new program for the racing community. We have launched Race With Riverside. Race With Riverside will be attending the 6 races listed below. At each race, one special racer will be named our Racer of the Day and will receive a special prize. Check out the Racer of the Day section at www.RaceWithRiverside.com to see who won. Also, on the site you can find more information about each race and enter for a chance to win our Grand Prize.

or “confirm” your account information. For example, you may see messages like this: “We recently purchased ABC Bank. Due to concerns for the safety and integrity of our new online banking customers, we have issued this warning message. Please follow the link below to renew your account information.” “We recently acquired the mortgage on your home and are in the process of validating account information. Please click here to update and verify your information.” “During our acquisition of XYZ Savings & Loan, we experienced a data breach. We suspect an unauthorized transaction on your account. To ensure that your account is not compromised, please click the link below to confirm your identity.” The messages direct you to a Web site that looks like the actual site of your new financial institution or lender. But it isn’t. It’s a bogus site designed to trick you into divulging your personal information so the operators can steal your identity and run up bills or commit other crimes in your name.

Riverside Welcomes the Tiger Cubs at Stahl Road
On January 10th, the Tiger Cubs from Getzville took a field trip to our Stahl Road Branch. The group of seven took a tour of the branch, counted money, and participated in an activity to encourage them to save, spend and give their money wisely. It’s a great way to teach children early how to budget their money. The boys had a great time, and the staff at Stahl Road was delighted to have them.

Everyone is welcome to register to win our Grand Prize. This season, we are giving away a Garmin Forerunner 405 GPS Enabled Sports Watch/ Heart Rate Monitor, as well as gift certificates to Fleet Feet, WE Massage, and Tom’s Pro Bike Shop. For a chance to win, log on to www.RaceWithRiverside.com. Riverside FCU is proud to be a part of the racing community and reminds you that we offer the best in Membership, Ownership and Friendship. For the best rates, savings, and service... race to Riverside.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) says, do yourself a favor and save some money, too. Don’t believe these claims. They’re very likely signs of a scam. Indeed, attorneys at the nation’s consumer protection agency say they’ve never seen a legitimate credit repair operation making those claims. The fact is, there’s no quick fix for creditworthiness. You can improve your credit report legitimately, but it takes time, a conscious effort, and sticking to a personal debt repayment plan.

Job-related Scams
With unemployment on the rise, people are understandably more susceptible to offers of a well-paying job; but be careful. Recent reports state that many job-related scams ask people to first wire-transfer money to their “employer.” These scams include work-at-home jobs, “mystery shoppers,” check-cashing and package delivery services.

Foreclosure Rescue
You think you’re signing documents for a new loan to make your existing mortgage current. This is a trick: you’ve signed documents that surrender the title of your house to the scam artist in exchange for a “rescue” loan.

Lotteries and Sweepstakes
If you have to pay to collect your winnings, you’re not winning – you’re buying. Legitimate sweepstakes don’t require you to pay “insurance,” “taxes,” or “shipping and handling charges” to collect your prize. Remember... if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Your credit union will never ask for your account number, Social Security number, or other personal information by e-mail or over the phone. Don’t respond to calls or e-mails asking for personal information. If you suspect a scam, contact the company directly to confirm phone numbers and e-mail addresses that you have received information from. For more information from the Federal Trade Commission, visit www.ftc.gov.

Beware of New Scams During a Bad Economy
A bad economy can expose you to new scams. When people are struggling financially, they become more vulnerable to financial cons. Authorities are seeing criminals take a new approach to old scams. Victims are being approached by criminals who claim to be offering help and assistance in getting out of financial trouble, while they are really increasing the victims’ financial problems. The following are a few scams to watch out for.

Credit Repair
You see the advertisements in newspapers, on TV, and on the Internet. You hear them on the radio. You get fliers in the mail and maybe even calls offering credit repair services. They all make the same claims: “Credit problems? No problem!” “We can remove bankruptcies, judgments, liens, and bad loans from your credit file forever!” “We can erase your bad credit – 100% guaranteed.” “Create a new credit identity – legally.”

Phish-erman’s Specials
Phishers may send attention-getting e-mails that look like they’re coming from the financial institution that recently acquired your bank, savings, loan, or mortgage. Their intent is to collect or capture personal information, such as your credit card numbers, bank account information, Social Security number, passwords, or other sensitive information. Their messages may ask you to “update,” “validate,”
