Associate producer, “Northwind,” CBC Radio One [One-year contact replacing someone on paternity leave, Dec. 07-08] Worked alongside host to produce weekday hour-long community news program heard across Canada’s western arctic. Duties included finding/recording/editing interviews, writing all scripts, writing questions for host and also serving as replacement host. Also wrote and maintained show’s website, which allowed me to host photography to supplement radio interviews. One example is End of the Road Music Festival 2008, presented with photos, music and audio interviews online. Newspaper reporter, Northern News Services [June 06-Dec. 07] General assignment reporter for NWT weeklies News/North, The Yellowknifer and Inuvik Drum. Wrote 7-10 articles a week plus news briefs and photos covering 7 communities. Three weekly rotating features including “On the job” profiles, “Northern Life” cultural features, photo spreads, humour columns, editorials and “Neighbourly News,” a weekly community bulletin. Briefly served as replacement editor of Inuvik Drum, writing entire newspaper’s content from sports page to editorial to news. Freelance reporter: My articles and photos have appeared in the Ottawa Citizen, Up Here magazine, Far North Oil & Gas, Nunatsiaq News, the magazine Beyond the Hill (Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians) and the Inuvialuit cultural magazine Tusaayaksat.
Former writer and guest section editor for The Charlatan, Carleton University’s campus newspaper. Editor/layout/coordinator, “The Bomber Pages” Inuvik youth publication [Summer 2007-Winter 08] Working alongside Inuvik Youth Centre and NWT Literacy Council, helped young people create a publication about themselves featuring stories, polls and jokes. (“Bomber pages” was the title voted by youth, and bomber is youth slang meaning cool in the North.) Published six small editions and also made available online. Did layout and posted publication online as PDF. Popular blogger My website www.inuvikphotos.ca is scheduled to surpass 50,000 unique visits in 2008. (One visit = one IP address per 3 hours) Up Here magazine recommended this site to its readers in April/May 2008. It offers information for people moving to town, as well as 800+ searchable pictures of Inuvik wildlife, buildings, scenery and people. Voted “Best photography” 2008 by NWTblogs.com vote, which was featured in NWT media including CBC and open to public voting.

Bachelors of Journalism with honours, Carleton University, Ottawa. [Graduated April 2006] Specialization in online and print reporting. Also volunteered as reporter editor and board member for The Charlatan campus weekly.
Misc skills_____________________________________
Photography: I know how to use different lenses, aperture, and shutter speeds for effect. My kit includes two good digital SLRs (Nikon D80 and Olympus EVolt) zoom lenses, filters, fish-eye lens, tripod, etc. Can shoot sports, concerts and scenes in low light, with no reflections off glasses, etc. Layout / photo processing I can use Quark, Photoshop and other applications for layout.. Also familiar with techniques used to enhance photos for print and web. (Colour curbing, sharpening, etc.)
Francophone I can speak and write fluently in French. I was raised francophone, attended francophone primary and high school and usually speak French with friends and family.
