What is the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme?
The NCAS is an initiative of the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and is a progressive coach education program offering courses at various levels, with over 70 sports involved. When the NCAS was developed it had a set structure of Levels 1–3 across all sports. Now sports determine the names and number of levels for their NCAS coaching pathway, provided some minimum standards are met. NCAS programs combine: ★ coaching general principles — generic principles of coaching and athletic performance that apply to all sports ★ sport specific — skills, techniques, strategies and approaches to the particular sport. Netball clubs and organisations often require coaches to be NCAS accredited. Coaches who are accredited within the NCAS have met minimum standards of competence such as the use of safe and correct techniques, effective communication, and group management.
