                                         MOTOR VEHICLES
                                WORLD MANUFACTURER IDENTIFIER (WMI)


1.        SCOPE AND APPLICABILITY

          This standard describes method for assignment of the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI)
          Codes. WMI is the First Section of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) referred to in 2-1
          hereof. The standard applies to passenger cars, multipurpose passenger vehicles, trucks,
          buses, trailers & semi-trailers, incomplete vehicles, and motorcycles.

3.        DEFINITIONS

3-1       See definitions in Saudi Arabian Standard No.(…..)/(…..) “Motor vehicles – Vehicle

4.        REQUIREMENTS

4-1       General

4-1-1     The Word Manufacturer Identifier (WMI) Code consists of three characters which form the
          First Section of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). ( See Appendix A)

4-1-2     A WMI Code assigned to a manufacturer shall be dedicated to that manufacture and verified
          with the International Standard Organization (ISO) or the competent local authority.

4-1-3     More than one WMI code may be assigned to the same manufacturer.

4-1-4     A WMI code assigned to a manufacturer may not be assigned to another manufacture, at
          least for the 30 years that follow year of assignment thereof.

4-1-5     Manufacturers that produce or plan to produce 500 vehicle or more motor vehicles per year
          shall be uniquely identified with a WMI code. When a manufacturer produces less than 500
          motor vehicles per year, the third character in the WMI code shall be numeral.

4-1-6     Character Requirements:
          Each character in the VIN shall be either an Arabic numeral in the set: [0123456789] or a
          capital letters if the set: [ABCDEFGHJKLMNPRSTUVWXYZ].

5        WMI CONTENT REQUIREMENTS:

5-1      First position:
         It is an alphanumeric character which designates a unique geographical area where the
         manufacturer has its principal place of business. More than one character may be used to
         uniquely identify a geographical area based on foreseeable future needs.

         Examples:
                                        1–5          North America
                                        S-Z             Europe
                                        A-H              Africa
                                        J-R               Asia
                                        6-7             Oceania
                                        8-9          South America


5-2      Second position:
         It is an alphanumeric character which designates a specific country within the geographical
         area designated by the first character. More than one character may be used to identify the
         country based on foreseeable future needs. A combination of the first and second characters
         will be needed to uniquely identify country of manufacture.

5-3      Characters assigned to the first and second positions:
         Country codes shall be assigned by the International Standards Organization (ISO) as
         combinations of the first and second characters in the WMI code

         Examples:
                                       10-19          United States
                                      A1-Z1           United States
                                      A2-W2             Canada
                                      A3-W3             Mexico
                                      W0-W9            Germany
                                      WA-WZ            Germany

5-4      Third Position:

5-4-1    An alphanumeric character, assigned by the competent local authority to a specific
         manufacturer. A combination of all three characters of the WDI code will be needed to
         uniquely identify the manufacturer.

5-4-2    A numeral shall be assigned to this position by the competent local authority in order to
         identify manufacturers which produce less than 500 motor vehicles per year. For said
         manufactures, the third, fourth and fifth characters in the Vehicle Descriptor Section (Fourth
         Section of the VIN), specified in the Saudi Arabian Standard referred to in 2-1 hereof, shall
         be assigned by the competent local authority in order to uniquely identify the manufacturer.

5-5      All ISO-specified characters of the WMI Code shall be considered compliant with the
         present specification.

6         IMPLEMENTATION OF WMI CODE ASSIGNMENTS:

          This will be the subject of a separate Saudi Arabian Standard.
